**PROJECT SPOTLIGHT**
We're proud to be helping keep South Dakota moving forward through one of the largest rail infrastructure improvement projects in the region.
Civil Design Inc. is serving as the engineer of record and handles all construction administration services and contract management for the rehabilitation of the 163-mile Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad (RCPE) corridor between Fort Pierre and Rapid City. This transformative $84 million project is focused on improving rail reliability, increasing freight capacity, and enhancing long-term operational efficiency across western South Dakota.
The project includes replacing nearly 88 miles of rail, installing approximately 80,000 new crossties, upgrading 121 bridge structures, restoring 121 rail crossings, replacing mainline turnouts, and resurfacing and realigning track to support modern freight demands.
As part of this effort, CDI has provided preliminary surveying, bridge inspections, project design, and ongoing contract management. Our team is also leading bid procurement, construction administration, grant management, and coordination with the South Dakota Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration.
Funded in part through a Federal RAISE Grant, this project represents a significant investment in the future of South Dakota's transportation infrastructure and economic growth. As construction activities move toward completion, the project is poised to deliver lasting benefits for industries, communities, and rail users across the state while strengthening a critical freight corridor for decades to come. We are honored to play a key role in delivering improvements that will benefit industries, communities, and rail users across the state for decades to come.
