These before and after photos show a kitchen rework in our Park Slope brownstone renovation. We exposed and lime washed the original brick, which lets the structure read through while adding visual texture and softness at the same time. The ductwork was reconfigured, tucked behind cabinetry and resolved with a custom grille to make it feel integrated not incidental. We brought the cabinetry up to the ceiling to amplify the height of the not-so-tall space. And added gentle curves to the cabinetry and shelving that receives one of the curved swing doors. All done in an effort to make a more contemporary, calm and considered space for clients who had been dreaming of renovating their space for years.

Millwork in progress for our Clinton Hill project. It’s the full height of the den with swing doors to go on top and bottom for a combination of open and concealed storage. The scale of it will feel so good in situ 👀

This exposed brick archway was once obstructed by an ill-placed bathroom and laundry. Now opened, it creates a clear passage through the sunroom addition to the garden. It also frames a view to the new daytime workspace which moonlights as a bar when the owners entertain.

At the entry of this Park Slope home, old and new meet in quiet dialogue. The original foyer, with its refurbished doors and preserved tile, now opens into an extended entry defined by storage on both sides. Tall slatted wood doors with custom sliding pulls introduce warmth and utility. Crafted entirely in wood and built by the owners’ own son, the millwork adds a personal layer to the home’s architecture.

At the entry of this Park Slope home, old and new meet in quiet dialogue. The original foyer, with its refurbished doors and preserved tile, now opens into a new entry storage space with closets on both sides. Tall slatted wood doors with custom sliding pulls bring warmth and functionality to the space. From the kitchen, daylight pours through a restored brick archway, drawing the eye toward the sunlit addition beyond. What was once an area obstructed by an ill-placed bathroom and laundry, has been opened to create a clear passage to the garden. The result is both spatial and atmospheric: circulation is eased, and light reaches deep into the heart of the home.

The new flow brings together kitchen, dining, and garden in a way that suits the owners’ love of entertaining, while a tucked-away counter in the skylit room serves with equal ease as a workspace or a bar.

True to the building’s history, the kitchen remains on the garden level, an echo of the brownstone’s original layout, yet the intervention heightens its sense of spaciousness and clarity. It’s a renovation that preserves character while allowing the house to breathe.

These are early samples for a Park Slope renovation that’s just about complete! We entertained the idea of engineered stone in the kitchen for its heat and stain resistance but went natural in the end after falling for a Taj Mahal slab on a stone yard visit.

A blue tape handle for the newly installed appliance garage! It’s all coming together for our Brooklyn brownstone clients with custom cabinetry details throughout. We made good use of this little corner.

Visits to stone galleries never cease to inspire. We walked through B&A’s new vast industrial space surrounded by incredible stone slabs and we selected beautiful options for an upcoming kitchen and two bathrooms.
