Life has a way of bringing people into our journey for different reasons. Some become part of our greatest memories, while others teach us valuable lessons through challenges, setbacks, and growth.

May is Pool Safety Month, and one of the most important parts of pool safety is making sure your fence is built to code.

A pool fence is more than just a property line — it’s a layer of protection for your family, your children, your pets, and your guests.

In most areas, pool fences are required to be a minimum of 4ft tall with self-closing and self-latching gates. All gates must open AWAY from the pool for safety reasons.

It’s also important to remember that every municipality may have different or stricter requirements. For example, in Collierville, the spacing on ornamental fencing must be 45 inches or greater. That means a standard 4ft ornamental fence with 3 horizontal rails will NOT pass inspection as a pool fence.

As a homeowner, make sure you understand your local fence and pool codes — and make sure the fence company you hire understands them too. Unfortunately, we see many pool fences installed that are not up to code, which can create safety risks and costly corrections later.

At Bartlett Fence, we believe safety matters just as much as appearance. If you’re planning a pool project this summer, let’s make sure it’s done the right way from the start.
