So ... I have a barn in which I sell old farm, ranch, shop, country stuff. It called OLD BARN FINDS.
I moved a decorative stand that had a wild morning glory growing up the pole. A woman bought the stand because it had the vine on it. She commented now she will not need to paint it.... Ha! Go figure.

Esparanza, also known as yellow bells or golden bells, are exploding with blooms at the end of the growing season. This popular plant is what I describe as a semi-hardy tropical. (That may be the best style of political talk for a horticultural description you have seen. Ha!) For Texas landscapes south of Waco and east of Austin, they will typically regrow from the crown at or just below the surface of the soil. They can grow and bloom for several years. After a couple of years though, they begin to grow tall lanky stems and only bloom at the end of fall. So, my recommendation is to dig, pitch, and replace your plant every other year with a younger plant that will grow and bloom all summer long, even in 100°+ temps.
Bumblebees like the blooms, .. a lot. They are docile and just want to gather the pollen. If they pose a concern, just keep in mind to plant away from gates or entry areas to the house or garage.

Ornamental pear tree bursting out in OCTOBER with a "false bloom" at the Lowes in Bryan, Tx. It's not springtime!
Drought stress followed by a change in temperature and ground moisture can trigger hormones as if the tree has emerged from winter dormancy.

Mallow Hibiscus... what a flower! Even a single bloom grabs your attention from a distance. Blooms are pink, red, or white. The Mallow Hibiscus is a reliable perennial for Texas. Blooms are 6" - 8" across, easily thr size of a coffee cup saucer. Growing 3' - 4' tall, the plant blooms May - October. Now, growers have selected and produced plants generating burgundy foliage. A phenomenal accent plant for a full sum bed.

Incredible and stunning blooms on a canna in my perennial garden. The overcast sky makes for a perfect photo opportunity. Cannas bloom in various colors orange, yellow, red, mottled of orange and yellow. They grow from rhizomes, or horizontal, carrot-type roots. Cannas are fool proof to transplant any tome of the year. Growing heights vary by variety type. The typical height is 3 1 2' - 4 1/2'. Some varieties grow as short as 2 1/2'. Others grow upwards of 6' - 6 1/2'. The growing conditions can be divers. Cannas are adaptable to living purely from rainfall, even in West Texas to growing as a pond/lake shoreline plant, or every situation in between. Cannas bloom on and of through the summer months. After a blooming is finished, slice off shoots to encourage reblooming.

Turks'Cap... a hummingbird's coffee bar. A Texas native found under post oak trees, along railroad tracks, and in moist woodland habitats.
For a wide range of soils, sun exposure, and rainfall amounts, turk's cap is a must for your landscape. Blooms in the shade... that's awesome. It has survived last three years of bizarre cold, heat, and drought.... that's incredible! Great companion plant for lantana, nandina, and aspidistra. Hummingbirds hover, hoard, and nectar up on the blooms from May through October.

Wow! I didn't expect to see this in my my perennial garden when it walked out to my truck this morning....a mallow hibiscus with a massive, crisp bloom.

All of God's creatures and plants can tell the weather has changed for the better in the Brazos Valley. More birds are moving and singing in the trees. The fall migration of butterflies is in full swing.

A durable Texas native perennial, .. Lantana. The natural, found in the wild type is referred to as "Confetti Lantana". When the individual tiny blooms dislodge and fall to the ground after maturing, the litter looks identical to confetti. The bush type Lantana is not hybridized, so it blooms and produces berry drupes. The hybrid varieties have been modified as not to produce seed. This cause a perpetual blooming cycle during the growing season. The native one stops blooming to produce seed. The planting can be readily triggered into repetitive blooming by snipping of the fruit when it appears as green, peas. Removing the seeds will release hormones to create new blooms.
