I couldn’t be more proud of what Talis Historic Restoration has become since passing the torch four years ago. Watching the company grow, uphold the craft of historic window restoration, and continue building on a strong foundation has been incredibly rewarding.

It’s especially meaningful to see several of the talented team members who were such a key part of our journey continue their work there today. Their dedication and skill are a big part of what makes this field so special.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for Talis and look forward to their continued growth and success.

The MacKay Estate Gate Lodge historic window reproduction project was one of our most “challenging” projects of 2025 for many reasons.
The Roslyn Landmark Society (who were very patient and a pleasure to work for) provided the photos of the installed windows and the following write up on their website. “Each gate lodge window has been hand-crafted by Northwood Sash and Joinery, a maker of custom, traditional wood windows and doors for historic properties. Testing and color-matching has been done to the original existing frames, which will allow for the new window color to match the originals.”
The windows were designed by architect John Collins . His drawings are also a pleasure to work with as his knowledge of historic window and door design is outstanding. One other notable mention was Green Mountain Insulated Glass who supplied the top quality low profile units made with Bendheim Restoration glass. (Photos courtesy of the Roslyn Landmark Society.

The new historic reproduction main entrance door for the Ellicottville Town & Village Hall (ca.1829). Working from a remaining photo of the historic door, the architects created the plans for us to reproduce the historic design with some modifications (glass panels in the doors and a built-in mail drop box). The installation was a bit of a challenge doing it throughout the frigid winter temperatures and heavy snow falls, but with our enclosure we were able to accomplish it. We also provided and installed the new town hall sign . The door unit was fabricated from Accoya.

A big shout out to the carpentry crew there for unloading these large doors and wrangling them into the building which was no easy task . Designed by , these diminished stile doors were historic reproductions of the original doors destroyed in 2001

The “After”, the “Before” and the “Journey”along the way to the reproduction and installation of the severely fire damaged gothic church window for the Center for Kashmir Museum slated to open in 2026. The 8’ x 14’ window was fabricated from Sapele Mahogany and Accoya with Solarban 60 insulated glass and was designed for a future stained glass mural.

The cloverleaf windows have returned to the historic Town Hall of Effingham, New Hampshire (ca. 1858) after being gone for over 100 years.
One of our most challenging yet gratifying historic window reproductions we have ever had the opportunity and privilege to make.
The reproduction window design was based on one remaining historic sash and the paint ghost lines on the exterior planking of the six story tower. The window units were fabricated from genuine Honduran Mahogany and glazed with period salvaged glass.
The installation was not only a workout climbing four flights of stairs and two ladders to get six stories up into the tower, but also requiring an 80 foot lift to access from the outside. Added to that was below freezing temperatures and high winds, but the effort was truly worth it.
What made this project even more special was the strong support and appreciation of the community of Effingham. A truly memorable experience for us at Northwood.

The first step in replicating probably one of the most unusual windows we’ll ever make was making the exterior casing. Next step will be fabricating the window sash and jamb. Looking forward to the final product!
