Planning a basement slab or garage floor? The compacted gravel base underneath is what keeps it from settling and cracking. We use at least 4 inches of crushed rock, compacted in layers, before any concrete gets poured.

Skip this step or rush it, and you'll see uneven settling within a couple years. A solid base means your slab stays level and crack-free for decades.

Planning a concrete slab? Here's something most people overlook: the subgrade needs to be compacted in 4 to 6-inch lifts, not all at once.

When soil is compacted in shallow layers, it creates a tighter, more stable base. Skip this step or rush it, and you're looking at settling, cracking, or an uneven surface down the road. A solid foundation starts below the concrete itself.

Compacted soil matters more than most people think. When the ground beneath shifts or settles, your concrete goes with it—leading to cracks and uneven surfaces that cost more to fix later. We compact in layers during site prep to lock in stability from the start. 🏡

Concrete doesn't finish curing when the crew leaves—it gains strength for years afterward.

A properly mixed slab reaches about 90% of its full strength at 28 days, then continues hardening well beyond that. What separates a driveway that fails after a handful of freeze-thaw cycles from one that holds up for decades? The mix, the prep, and knowing how your climate will test the work.

A little preventative care goes a long way with concrete.

✅ DO seal your concrete surfaces every few years to protect against stains, cracks, and weather damage.
❌ DON'T ignore small cracks or skip sealing, this often leads to costly repairs and weakened concrete over time.

✅ DO clean your driveway or patio regularly to prevent buildup that can break down the surface.
❌ DON'T use deicing salts directly on unsealed concrete, they'll eat away at it faster than you'd think.

✅ DO address drainage issues before water pools and freezes in the same spot season after season.
❌ DON'T assume concrete can handle anything, even the toughest slab needs a little help staying strong.
