The Whitehall Building, a 20-story Renaissance Revival structure built in 1904, underwent a major restoration beginning in 2018 due to significant decay of its original limestone and terra cotta details. Over 30 custom Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) pieces were created to replace the lost ornamentation, based on historic photos and site measurements. The restoration covered 500 sqft of the building's pediment, blending new materials with the original design to preserve the building's architectural integrity. We're honored to be part of the restoration of the Temple of Diana at Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua, NY! 🏛️ This iconic structure, originally built in 1905, has been in pieces since 1999, but we’re bringing it back to life one step at a time.

Before winter hit, we carefully took molds of the remaining original ornamentation and gathered measurements from the site. Now, we're in the process of resculpting the missing pieces, using old photos as our guide. When the sculpture’s complete, we'll cast the final pieces, match the color and texture of the original stone, and build the structural support needed to complete the restoration.

A century of history was almost lost, but we brought it back to life. The original gargoyles, made from sheet metal, were over 100 years old and badly damaged. We studied the remaining pieces and what the intent was where pieces were missing. You could still see the solder lines and the meticulous artistry of bending metal to create sculpture.

Today, using sheet metal would be impractical, so we turned to a polymer-modified plaster that mimics the feel of corian while offering the sculpting flexibility of traditional plaster. The result? A durable, weather-resistant material that preserves the artistry of the past while ensuring longevity for the future.

These newly reimagined gargoyles now stand proudly atop a historic estate in Buffalo
