Roberts Gordon Infrared Heating

Roberts-Gordon manufactures energy efficient, infrared heaters for commercial & industrial buildings. Absorption is the ability of an object to absorb energy.

Unlike air heaters that blow hot air around, infrared heating is similar to the sun in that it gently warms people, floors and objects. These objects retain and re-radiate heat back into the space and not up to the ceiling or out the door like air heaters do. This translates into greater comfort at lower air temperatures, while using less energy. Infrared is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum,

located between microwaves and the visible light we see each and every day. Infrared heating utilizes all methods of heat transfer: radiation, absorption, conduction and convection. Radiation is the direct transfer of energy from a hot surface to a cool one without any means of heat transfer such as air. Most materials in industrial buildings contain concrete or metal which are highly absorptive and ideal for infrared heating. Conduction is the transfer of heat through a solid object. This allows the building to heat evenly by spreading the heat throughout objects and warming the air through convective energy from these warmed objects. These combined concepts cause the heating dynamics of the building to be different. The heat loss to obtain equivalent comfort is less, therefore, enabling the user to use less energy and install less equipment.
