Continuing our support of the beautiful Sattler Theatre! The WNY Minority Media Professionals (WNYMMP) organization is working hard to stabilize the 1914 building for reuse as a community performance space. Originally built as a movie house by the famed Sattler Department Store retailer, the goal is to re-imagine the theatre as a multi-use performance space and home for WNYMMP. Right now the focus is masonry repairs.

Kleinhans Music Hall, a National Historic Landmark and one of Buffalo's most beloved structures, has been getting a major HVAC upgrade! The original, early 1940s room-sized boilers are being dismantled and replaced with much smaller, energy-efficient models. This work has involved major repairs to the surrounding architectural infrastructure, and FBA has been working with the City of Buffalo and Kleinhans Music Management on this project for a number of years.

As the upgrades near completion, our office took a tour of the facility, taking time to appreciate its uniqueness and significance and to admire the original blueprints from Eliel & Eero Saarinen. We are proud to have performed preservation-focused design work on many of Erie County's National Historic Landmarks, including St. Paul's Cathedral, the Guaranty Building, and the Richardson Olmsted Complex.

The FBA team had a wonderful night celebrating another Art of Beer Event at the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center last Friday. It was incredible to see the variety of local arts on display, enjoy curated live music performances, and get an inside look at the studio spaces where the artists who inhabit the NACC bring their creativity to life – all while savoring the selection of local and regional beers that brewers had on offer!

Congratulations to the NACC on a successful event, and we look forward to continuing our work on the restoration of the historic Auditorium, which will be completed in 2027.

Lauren and Nancy enjoyed catching up with some longstanding colleagues and meeting with new construction professionals at the Women in Construction Week Kick-off at the Burchfield Penney Art Center this morning. Flynn Battaglia Architects is proud to be a Women-Owned Business since 2024 and has supported paths for women in our profession for decades.

Flynn Battaglia is pleased to announce that we have contracted with the State University Construction Fund to complete an exciting renovation of the Orvis Student Activity Center at SUNY Alfred State College of Technology. The firm’s past work at SUNY Alfred includes major legacy projects at the Central Dining Hall and Life Sciences Center, and we are thrilled to be back on Campus now with a team led by Project Manager Megan Brooks, AIA, and supported by Designers Amy Sczepanski and Colin Davidson – all three of whom are graduates of Alfred State’s Architectural Technology program.

The renovation of the Orvis Center will solve a number of structural and safety issues, make the facility ADA accessible, and repurpose the underutilized space for recreational basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, wrestling practice, and other student activities. The design will feature fresh finishes, enhanced lighting, and new mechanical systems, including air conditioning. Flynn Battaglia’s design work will support Alfred State as the College experiences continued enrollment growth, including the largest incoming full-time class since 2010.
