Young Waterproofing Basements Made Dry since 1959! ..but do you know how the story began?? Did you know we're a family business?
Hi! I am Adrienne Young and feeling nostalgic today.
I am Dick Young's daughter and currently one of the estimators for our Family Company. (My cousin Bradley is also an estimator).
My Dad is President and owner of Young Waterproofing.
This is how our Company got started....
From stories we've all heard growing up, my grandfather was a coal miner in Pennsylvania. When "the boys" meaning my Dad and his brothers (my uncles), were coming of work age, my grandfather didn't want them working in the mines. So he packed up the family and moved to Buffalo NY hearing there was work there. My Uncle Chuck being one of the older brothers started doing handy man work and hired my dad for pennies a day to help him. My dad worked after-school and weekends with him and learned A LOT. They discovered a real need for waterproofing basements. They contacted the Waterproofing Association and learned all they could from them. (Years later my Dad became president of the Waterproofing Association) They traveled across the US looking into different techniques and theories. They took hours and hours of classes getting certified in different areas, and brought that knowledge back to Buffalo and Young Waterproofing was born. My Uncle Chuck brought all the brothers on board. Dale, Snick, Don, and John. And later my Aunt Irene answered calls and managed the office. Today our office phone number is 716-893-1939 it was my Uncle Chuck's first apartment phone number...its never been changed. My Aunt Barb use to answer her phone "Thank You for calling Young Waterproofing " this is Barbara, how can I help you?"
That was over 60 years ago ...
66 years this May to be precise. Today my sister Denise or my niece Stacey will answer your call in the same manner to schedule an appointment or to answer a question. My brother Rick, is one of our crew chief's. Along with my cousin Tom who runs another crew.
My dad...well he's still going strong. He still goes on the jobs and over schedules, and paperwork and will ride with us on estimates occasionally....he says he's retired, but in reality they just takes longer vacations, but the minute he's back he's right back to business
and we wouldn't have it any other way. After all he IS the Waterproofing guru, who wouldn't want that kind of experience along for the ride?
