NOT changing your return filters at least once a month during the air conditioning season can cause the following:
Higher utility bills: Your AC must draw extra power to force air through a blocked filter, raising energy use by 5% to 15% or more.
Frozen coils: Restricted airflow prevents warm air from passing over the cold refrigerant coils, causing them to freeze into a block of ice.
Overheating and short cycling: The blower motor strains and overheats, causing the unit to turn on and off rapidly before shutting down completely.
Shortened lifespan: Continuous strain leads to permanent mechanical failure, forcing early and expensive system replacements.
Poor air quality: Dust, pet dander, pollen, and mold circulate back into your living space instead of getting trapped.
Allergy flare-ups: Trapped microbes and recirculated dust trigger sneezing, itchy eyes, headaches, and sinus congestion.
Uneven cooling: Rooms stay uncomfortably warm or fail to reach your target temperature because weak airflow cannot distribute air properly
