Not all tile roofs are the same.
In this video, our owner, Ken Reed breaks down the most common roofing tile materials homeowners see today and what makes each one different.
*️Concrete Tile – The most common builder-grade tile. It’s durable, widely available, and typically carries around a 40-year warranty, though the lifespan often depends heavily on the underlayment beneath it.
*️Recycled Plastic Tile – A newer, eco-friendly option made from recycled materials. It’s lighter than concrete and can be installed on roofs without reinforced trusses, but the long-term durability is still being evaluated.
*️Clay Tile – The classic “old world” tile seen throughout Europe. Clay is naturally strong, very durable, and known for its timeless appearance. It typically costs around 15% more than concrete but offers greater strength and beauty.
*️Stone-Coated Steel – The highest-performing roofing system available. It carries strong fire, hail, and wind ratings. In fact, we at R&K installed these very tiles in our local Palm Coast fire stations, since these facilities are used as designated emergency shelters.
🏠Every home is different, and the right roofing material depends on structure, budget, and long-term goals.
