Go look behind your washing machine right now. If the hoses are black rubber, they have a lifespan, and when they fail they fail all at once with the water still running. Braided stainless steel hoses cost very little and are a much better bet. While you are back there, make sure the shutoff valves actually turn.

Sediment settles at the bottom of a tank over time, making the unit work harder than it needs to, and tankless units require periodic descaling, especially with hard water.
