Recently had to replace some steps on a deck I've been servicing. Take one guess why the steps broke through. And no, I did NOT build these stairs.

On this FaceBook page I've posted a lot of links to other craftsmens videos because I never had the means to create my own. This is the very first in what I hope to be a large collection of projects I will be building in the future.

I still don't have state-of-the-art equipment. But my intention here is not to make Block Buster films or go viral on YouTube. But to connect with other woodworkers and craftsmen of all skill levels and share some of the techniques I've learned over the years.

I hope you enjoy these videos and take a look at the other content I have on my page. And if you have a suggestion for a project or questions about carpentry, woodworking or DIY, feel free to ask. Woodworking is my passion ~ not film making ~ and I'm always eager to share my knowledge and ideas with others.

This album will document the construction of two sizes of wind chimes I built from 1 1/4” Class M copper tubing. I had the opportunity to acquire several hundred feet of used copper tubing. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with this until a stumbled across this website.

http://leehite.org/Chimes.htm.

Entitled “An Engineering Approach To Wind Chime Design”, author Lee Hite describes in staggering detail not only how to build wind chimes, but the science behind them. There are pages on suggested materials, lengths, tunings, support hangers, strikers and wind sails. As well as templates for cutting the parts, proper striker and wind sail locations. He's also included resource links, calculators and programs to assist you in your own builds.

If you have ever considered building wind chimes, the website above should be the very first place you look for any and ALL info on building the best sounding and looking wind chimes you can.

I recently discovered this unusual instrument. It's design is simple, easy to play and produces rich tones. Did a lot of research on different brands and styles and thought this would be a great woodworking project and unique Christmas present for my son Tony ~ and myself! Using several different models as my inspiration, I incorporated many of the best features into my own design.

I wanted to add an adjustable snare to give the upper tones a splash effect. I also wanted to place the sound port on the front panel to direct the sound forward. I added a baffle to redirect and concentrate the sound energy toward the front port and I angled the front panel slightly to make it more comfortable to play.

I finished the drums with two different shades of stain, added graphics and applied several coats of water based polyurethane to all sides. The cushions were made from 2” Poly Foam and attached with strips of Velcro.

I'm very pleased with the way these turned out and even more impressed with the sound quality. Striking the center of the front panel (Tapa), produces a deep, bassy tone. The upper corners are purposely left loosely attached to create the high tones. And the snare can be turned on or off to add a subtle buzz.

Being my first attempt at building a Cajon, I over-engineered the design elements quite a bit. But this is basically just a box. And as long as the dimensions and building techniques are roughly followed, I think any DIYer could build one that will sound just as nice.

Hope you enjoy this album. If you'd like to build your own and have questions, shoot me an email. I'll be happy to help.

The biggest issue with doors and windows is water seeping in and causing rot.
