🦠 Does cellulose mold? Frankly, mold is literally everywhere, and it lives in the same conditions we do. Mold also tends to like certain materials more than others, paper being one of them...so it's easy to see why people would think cellulose insulations would harbor mold.

✅ However, the one thing most people forget is that Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is treated with fire retardants called borates. Borates naturally reduce the potential for mold growth. In addition, Nu-Wool adds an EPA registered fungicide that is also from the borate family as an added protection.

💡 We at Nu-Wool use the ASTM C739 as the standard by which we test our cellulose. Within this standard is a test regarding mold, and Nu-Wool passes this mold resistance testing with no issues.

🙌 An added benefit to cellulose is that it naturally is able to manage moisture well, meaning that even in the case of moisture exposure, cellulose will not mold or rot like other common insulation types. This provides long-term peace of mind knowing that the insulation in your walls is designed and treated to resist mold growth.

🙌 What's durable, flexible, sustainable, and drainable? INSULDRI foundation insulation!

♻️ Made from at least 70% post-industrial recycled PET carpet fibers, INSULDRI is a sustainable foundation insulation that doubles as a drainage board. Given its sustainable makeup, it's also non-irritating and gentle on skin, ensuring a hassle-free installation.

💪 Designed for below grade applications, INSULDRI utilizes thermal binding technology to ensure superior durability during the installation and backfill process. Though, its durability doesn't prevent the material from being flexible and adaptable. Regardless of your construction requirements, INSULDRI is a versatile choice capable of bending and fitting various below grade applications.

💧 INSULDRI also has excellent drainage properties, which prevent the material from becoming waterlogged, which is common when using other materials. This characteristic allows our foundation insulation product to double as a drainage board. This property ensures your foundation and waterproofing remain protected over time.

3️⃣ The three basics of sound control are stiffness, mass, and balance. Does your wall insulation help with the sound control in your home?

🔊 To first understand sound control, we first have to understand that sound, at a basic level, is energy. This energy is experienced through vibrations, called sound waves, that travel through the air or travel through another medium (solid or liquid). These vibrations can be heard when they reach our ears, as our brain processes the reception of these energy waves, thus giving us "sound."

🔇 Sound absorption is the process where energy from a sound wave is reduced as it passes through a medium. Having a sound-absorbing insulation is great for not only keeping exterior noise out, but also keeping interior noise at bay.

🏋️‍♂️ When we think about the term "mass," we're talking about density and all the matter and substance that makes up an object. In relation to sound, the thinner and lighter something is, the easier it is for energy to pass through. This means a material with less density isn't able to control sound as well as a material with thicker density. When it comes to insulation, fiberglass and open-cell foam only have a 0.5 pound density. Closed-cell foam performs better with a 2 pound density. But Nu-Wool performs the best with a 3.5 pound density!

☁️ Then we have "stiffness," also known as rigidity. The more rigid something is, the easier it is for sound to pass through it and even bounce off of it because there is no natural absorption. Insulation like foam is very rigid when applied and so it does a bad job of absorbing sound. Fiberglass is a little better with some absorbing properties. But again, Nu-Wool is best as it is the most sound-absorbent and flexible insulation on the market! Given its soft rigidity and its flexibility, it performs excellently at absorbing sound.

🏡 To create a balanced, sound-controlled environment, you need an insulation that's going to get the job done. With a high density and yet a flexible, absorbent makeup, Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is the best insulation to create a noticeably quieter home!

♻️ The carbon neutral and sustainable choice for insulation is Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose insulation, due to its recycled content of 86%! On top of this, cellulose insulation is more energy efficient for your home, resulting in the use of less fuel to heat and cool the structure. Our Premium Cellulose insulation is also all natural and will last the lifetime of the structure it's used in, so there's no need for it to be replaced!

💡 Studies have also shown that cellulose insulated structures have a lower carbon footprint than other structures. When looking at the embodied carbon from various insulating materials, cellulose insulation actually has a negative amount of emissions. This is called a "negative emission" or "carbon storage." This essentially means there's a climate benefit to the material, rather than a consequence. Using carbon-storing cellulose insulation in your home could positively alter the emission profile of the structure you live in!

🏡 Experts say that the cellulose industry is well positioned to lead a movement toward a built environment that begins to store more carbon than it emits!
