Mr. Yancy Burkes, Cairo High School Construction Class teacher, recently took CTAE students to the Construction Ready CareerExpo — an incredible hands-on experience focused on skilled trades and career opportunities.

Students had the opportunity to explore interactive exhibits, connect with industry professionals, and get a real-world look at careers not only in construction, electrical, and plumbing, but also in culinary and nursing fields. It was a great experience that showcased a wide variety of career paths available to them after high school.

One of the biggest takeaways for many students was learning about the apprenticeship programs offered by companies in attendance. These programs provide a direct pathway into the workforce while gaining valuable hands-on experience. A standout opportunity highlighted was with Ring Power (Cat), located just across the state line in Midway, which offers an excellent apprenticeship program for students interested in pursuing careers in the industry.

Opportunities like this truly bring learning beyond the classroom and allow students to explore their interests and start building their futures.

We are proud of these students for stepping out, exploring, and taking advantage of these experiences!

The deer feeders built by the Cairo High School Construction Class are officially loaded up and heading to South Georgia Outdoors for sale!

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, craftsmanship, and attention to detail these students put into every project.

🛠️ Learning Beyond the Classroom! 🛠️

Mr. Burkes recently took 9 of his Construction Class students to SkillsUSA Georgia’s State Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta!

Although they did not compete, students had an incredible hands-on learning experience. They observed live competitions, connected with industry professionals, and explored vendor exhibits. Students even had the opportunity to go up in a scissor lift, visit the Be Pro Be Proud GA mobile workshop experience, and engage in interactive virtual learning that highlighted careers in the skilled trades.

Experiences like this expand their knowledge, build excitement for the construction industry, and inspire them to continue developing their skills. We are proud of these students for taking the initiative to learn and grow beyond the classroom! 👏

🪚 Cairo High School Construction Class Supports the Spirit of Giving Raffle 🪚

Our Cairo High School Construction Class is proud to partner with 1st Option Care to help support their “Celebrate the Spirit of Giving” raffle!

We had the opportunity to build and donate a handcrafted picnic table, and now it could belong to YOU — all while supporting an incredible local ministry that serves our community.

• 5 for $20
Tickets can be purchased at affiliated pharmacies in Bainbridge, Cairo, and Thomasville, or at U-Save It Pharmacy in Cairo.

Winner will be drawn on December 16 at 11 AM.

All proceeds will benefit the ministry of 1st Option Care, helping them continue their mission of care, support, and encouragement to families in our community.

🚧 Project Spotlight! 🛠️

Our Cairo High School Construction students have been hard at work building a new set of stairs leading up to the gym! This project will provide a safe and convenient way for visiting football teams to access the gym’s locker room during pregame and halftime.

We’re proud of the teamwork, craftsmanship, and dedication these students show on every project. Great job, Syrupmakers! 👏🏽🏈🔨

Thank you to Metro Power for the kind donation of tools to Mr. Yancy Burkes for our construction class. Each bag of tools is roughly $550 in value. These tools will help Mr. Burkes work with students on wiring and other electrical projects.
