Please know that per Federal Law the R410A refrigerant equipment we have been using for many years is being phased out at the end of this year, and all equipment manufactured after 2024 must use a different refrigerant that has a lower "global warming potential" than R410A refrigerant.
If someone tells you that the R410A refrigerant equipment you have in your home is illegal to own, they are trying an unscrupulous sales tactic. Please have peace of mind that the R410A refrigerant and parts to maintain your R410A equipment is available, and it is not illegal to repair or maintain it.
The equipment that uses the refrigerant that has a lower GWP will cost more, has a flammable component in it, and hence has some safety controls that must be installed to tie into the furnace control board to turn on the blower if a refrigerant leak is detected in the house ducting.
Please know that you have a choice if you have old equipment that is for all intents and purposes worn out. You can wait for the new equipment that uses the lower GWP refrigerant and plan on spending more, or replace it using the R410A equipment that is going obsolete (but has a 10 year parts warranty).
