The Restoration of Bryceville Methodist Church ⛪️
An Update With Gratitude and Hope
A little over a year ago, a vision began to take root - one rooted in reverence for the past and a deep commitment to the future.
We gathered, not just to look at an old structure, but to stand in awe of a church that has served as the heart of the Bryceville community for well over a century. Time had taken its toll. The siding was tired. The steeple weathered. The roof had seen better days. But even then, beneath the fading paint and rusted metal, we saw something too important to lose - a legacy worth saving.
Today, we’re proud to share that the new roof is complete. Installed with historically appropriate 24-gauge 5V galvanized-finish metal, every panel and fastener was placed with care and reverence. This wasn’t just a replacement. It was an act of architectural stewardship - performed using materials and techniques reflective of the period in which the church was originally constructed, while meeting current Florida Building Code standards. Beneath the new roof lies updated 7/16” sheathing, ice & water shield underlayment, and full compliance with wind uplift requirements - ensuring the church is protected for generations to come.
The steeple itself has been restored and re-screened with hardware cloth to preserve airflow while preventing future intrusion from pests. It has been crowned with a beautiful, custom-fabricated finial - faithfully replicating the spirit of the original and sealed to preserve its timeless shine. The finial was generously provided by the church and installed with care as the final jewel atop this historic landmark.
At the heart of this restoration effort stands Mrs. Annie Spell, whose unwavering leadership has made this dream a reality. Annie has been the voice, the vision, and the fuel behind every milestone - rallying support, coordinating work, and keeping the mission focused and faithful. Through her efforts and her partnership with the Bryceville Historic Church & Cemetery, this project has honored not just the structure itself, but the generations of worshipers and community members who’ve passed through its doors.
We’ve now moved into the next phase of restoration: exterior & interior wood repair and painting, along with foundation repair executed with the same attention to detail and respect for historical authenticity. It’s not just about construction - it’s about restoration in the truest sense: of dignity, of heritage, of sacred purpose.
To each of you - our donors, neighbors, friends, and faithful partners - thank you. Your financial support, encouragement, and trust have allowed something truly special to take shape. This isn’t just a restoration of a building; it’s a resurrection of purpose, identity, and legacy.
Because of you, the Bryceville Methodist Church will continue to stand tall - anchored in history, alive in spirit, and ready to serve its community for another hundred years.
