Last but certainly not least, our 5th Bronze award for the evening, we have ‘Every Day Feels Like Vacation’ entered into the category Residence Greater than ½ Acre.

Starting with a blank slate on this new construction property, the possibilities were endless. Basic components from the builder’s exterior package, such as an asphalt driveway and stepping stone front entrance walk, were upgraded to create a welcoming front entrance.

The driveway 🚗 was widened, a paver border and paver driveway apron were incorporated, that tie nicely into the new solid entry walk 🚶‍♀️‍➡️, leading guests to a welcoming transitional landing at the base of the front porch steps. A decorative retaining wall was required by the transitional landing to allow for flat grounds, and the stone veneer existing on the house was utilized on the wall and decorative piers for further material continuity.

Making your way into the backyard for a real showstopper of an entertaining space, you first are met by the pavilion area, equipped with a custom gas fireplace 🔥, ample space for seating and its own bar 🍹🍸 station with mini refrigerator. This area was intended for extended season entertaining and relaxation, offering cozy nights both in the Summer ☀️ and late Fall 🍂. Incorporating a new paver material exclusively under the pavilion offers the feel of an independent space, while the layout maintains an open concept to the balance of the yard.

Steps away sits the main focal point of the yard; a new in-ground pool 🌊 with sun shelf. At the back of the pool, additional walls were incorporated to accommodate the steep slope towards the back of the property, and to achieve the flat entertaining space. Situated between the pool & house entrance is the central dining 🍽️ area, including an outdoor kitchen 🍔 steps away from the home’s rear entrance for easy transition in and out of the interior.

Plantings throughout the front & rear yard offer a combination of purposes. The year round greenery 🌱 along the front foundation soften the hardscaping and stone veneer on the home. Ample planting bed space can be utilized for seasonal plantings and allow room for perennials 🌼 to grow providing dynamic color and texture throughout the seasons. Evergreen 🌲 trees offer a soft screening from neighbors and allow the pavilion area to feel secluded. Clusters of perennials 🌻 and grasses provide softness against both utilities and the masonry work, and the planting bed behind the pool allows for seasonal annuals 🌸 & tropicals 🌺 for bold splashes of color during pool season.

‘A Warm Welcome Home’; the 4th Bronze Award we were honored to receive at the 2026 LINLA Design Awards within the ‘Entrance’ category. This project is the perfect example of how a grand entrance enhances curb appeal!

First, you’re welcomed by a Techo-Bloc paver driveway apron entrance, which ties beautifully into a triple compound row lock border surrounding the complete driveway, and all new asphalt as the main field. The border serves both aesthetic and structural functions, locking the asphalt in place while providing a refined visual transition between hardscape and landscape, plus offers extra room for guest vehicles 🚗 navigating in and out.

Pavers were carried into the front entrance walkway🚶‍♀️‍➡️, with a larger path to the home’s secondary entrance, while also gracefully guiding guests towards the main entrance, where they are greeted with a custom fabricated Bluestone transitional landing. All hardscape materials utilized in the front yard mirror previously installed materials in the Rear Yard on prior projects, unifying the complete property. The stone veneer on the new decorative masonry lantern piers nicely complements the color scheme of the new pavers and Bluestone accents.

Lastly, the removal of mature, overgrown plantings (apart from a small collection of preserved plantings), left a blank space to revamp! Evergreens🌲establish year-round screening, while perennials 🌸💮 and grasses soften bed lines and enhance the entry experience with pops of color to offset the dominantly green palette.

For our next Bronze Award Winning project, we present ‘Poolside Patio & Relaxation’. This project tested our design team’s ability to navigate around an existing structure and how to leave this client with a finished project that felt planned out from the start.

With the semi above ground pool already installed prior to our arrival, our team worked through the challenges of varying elevations, to create a well laid out space offering ample entertaining opportunities. Utilizing Cambridge MaytRx Wall Block, retaining walls provided level areas suitable for both entertaining and functionality. By cutting the grade at the front of the pool, it allowed the installation of wall block leaving a more polished appearance from the front view, and the ability to install pool coping for a beautifully finished look.

The Main Entertainment space at the house was designed as a series of outdoor ‘rooms’, each serving a distinct function while remaining visually and physically connected. The custom outdoor kitchen is situated close to the action of the fire pit area and main dining space, while perfectly positioned close to the walkway connecting the main entertaining space to guests relaxing poolside.

Next up in the queue for a Bronze Award winning design for Residence Greater than 1/2 Acre; ‘Catching Waves of Relaxation’.

In addition to a separate major home renovation, this Moriches client made the exterior overhaul a priority to be ready for boating season! With a list of goals including direct access to their boat 🚤 ramp, ample parking 🚗 for guests, and entertaining spaces, the JRL Design Team brought this client a property aimed to please. Offering an entertaining space for land lovers close to the home, and a separate space for those that want to be closer to the water action, this property is sure to be the center of Summertime action.

Incorporating a custom compass 🧭 inlay within the front walk entrance, and a creative spin on an easy to spot landmark for returning boaters (check out 👀 that re-purposed shipwreck boat planting 🌸🪻🪷), both inspired by the creative minds of this fabulous client, helped to put the finishing personal touches on this project, allowing it to stand out from the rest!

Project Spotlight on the 1st LINLA Bronze Award presented to J. Ratto Landscaping: The Cozy Corner!

Together with the client, our team designed this pavilion area, filled with everything you need for entertaining on a Summer night, to cozy nights in by the fireside on a late Fall evening.

Incorporating a rustic style pavilion, coupled with a gas powered fireplace 🔥, and a custom outdoor kitchen, complete with Grilling station🍔outdoor sink, refrigerator, and plenty of counterspace, really brought life to this yard! This project shows how it's all about the planning: tucking this outdoor living space into the corner of the yard, leaves ample space for future additions. What was once a blank canvas, is now THE gathering place for our awesome client 🍻

Can't wait to work with this customer on future plans!

On Thursday, February 26th, 2026, the J. Ratto Landscaping Team was proudly presented with a total of [5] Bronze Level awards at the Long Island Nursery & Landscape Association’s 45th Annual Environmental Enhancement Awards!

We are extremely grateful, first and foremost, to our amazing customers for instilling their trust within our team, and honoring us with the privilege of their business, while we worked to bring their landscaping visions to life.

A huge thank you to our vendors and suppliers that work with us to make it happen, delivering our material, jumping through hoops, and taking care of our customers with their top-notch customer service.
