5 Misconceptions We Hear All the Time as General Contractors 🛠️
Working in construction, we hear a lot of assumptions about the building and renovation process. Here are a few of the most common ones:
1. “It should only take a couple months.”
Many projects involve permits, inspections, material lead times, and coordinating multiple trades. Good work takes planning and time.
2. “Contractors control everything.”
We manage a lot, but things like permit approvals, weather, and material delays can be outside of our control.
3. “The lowest bid is the best option.”
Price matters, but so does experience, quality materials, communication, and proper licensing. Sometimes the cheapest option ends up costing more later.
4. “Once construction starts, the plan never changes.”
Projects evolve! Sometimes homeowners change things, or we uncover something behind the walls that needs to be addressed.
5. “Contractors just show up and build.”
Behind every project is a lot of planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination happening behind the scenes.
Construction is a team effort, and clear communication makes the biggest difference.
