Director of Interior Design Melissa Mayer and Specification & Procurement Manager Erin Brumbley recently attended HD Expo + Conference in Las Vegas—one of the hospitality industry’s leading events for product discovery, emerging trends, and collaboration across design, procurement, and manufacturing.

From sculptural lighting, decorative fixtures, and hospitality-inspired outdoor furnishings to layered materials, tactile fabrics, architectural textures, and biophilic design elements, the experience offered valuable insight into the ideas shaping the future of hospitality and multifamily environments.

Throughout the week, Melissa and Erin connected with industry partners, explored emerging manufacturers, and sourced innovative solutions that support Urban Practice’s commitment to creating thoughtful, experience-driven spaces.

Across the show floor, a clear theme emerged: spaces are becoming more immersive, memorable, and emotionally connected—balancing elevated aesthetics with comfort, functionality, and a strong sense of place.

The new neighborhood will provide 112 homes for military families and was designed around connection, walkability, and everyday family life — with shared green spaces, gathering areas, and homes planned to support comfort, belonging, and community.

Last week, in partnership with The Michaels Organization, we welcomed our “teammates in training” to our corporate office for Bring Your Child to Work Day. The day included a lemonade stand (raising over $600 for The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation!), arts and crafts, games, and a chance to see what a day at Urban Practice looks like.

Earlier this month, a few of our teammates traded drawings for drills and spent the day building for a cause with Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey. We’re proud to partner with an organization doing such meaningful work right here in our own community.

Urban Practice was back in Austin for the InterFace Student Housing Conference and proud to once again be a Gold Sponsor.

This also marks the second year our own Jason Lutz has taken the stage, contributing to the ongoing conversation around one of the industry’s biggest challenges: delivering density, affordability, and great design while still making projects pencil.

A few themes that stood out this year:

- Affordability starts early, with stronger collaboration across teams
- Market Volatility and erratic project costs continue to be a critical factor in project feasibility
- Student expectations are evolving, but privacy remains essential
- Amenities are becoming more intentional, flexible, and experience-driven

It was great to see how the conversation has evolved since last year, and to connect with so many thoughtful leaders across the industry.

We appreciate the opportunity to share the stage with a great group of panelists: Jonathan Delcambre (Gensler), Andrew Roark (Forum Architecture & Interior Design), Ben Mahala (Powers Brown Architecture), Jack Boarman (BKV Group), and moderator David Senden (KTGY).

Thank you to InterFace Conference Group and France Media Inc. for another impactful event.

March is a time to recognize the legacy, contributions, and continued impact of women—both throughout history and within our own studio.

At Urban Practice, our work is shaped by women across architecture, interior design, and the essential support roles that keep our projects and teams moving forward. Their leadership, creativity, and perspective are integral to how we design and how we serve our communities.

We honor the women who have paved the way in our industry—and those within our team who continue to push it forward every day.

Because building better communities starts with inclusive voices at the table.
