Tuesday, June 9 marked a memory that will live on in our minds forever. While Banks Builders is a custom home building company, a big part of our lives has always been, and always will be, fishing.
Yesterday, thanks to the Daniels family, Captain Cameron Guthrie, and mate Jackson Weeks, we brought home a record-breaking Blue Marlin.
As the boat backed into Big Rock Landing, the crowd was screaming, the music was blaring, and I found the faces of my wife, children, family, and friends cheering from the dock. The fish was raised, the number was called, and joy overwhelmed me.
It’s the same feeling that washes over me when I welcome a client into their finished home for the first time. It’s the quiet pride that comes from pouring an immense amount of energy into something bigger than yourself.
I grew up on these waters and learned to fish with my dad, alongside many incredible people who have also served as mentors in business. I’m blessed to build homes and raise my family on the land that boarders these waters.
One day, I’ll tell my kids the whole story of the fight, the team, and the history. But I hope what they take from it is this: love where you’re from, work hard with your hands, and surround yourself with people who won’t give up the fight alongside you.
Thank you, Marlin Fever, Big Rock, and Carteret County, for being the kind of place that’s always worth coming home to.
