Have you ever seen a tile floor suddenly lift or "tent" with no warning?

In Florida, this is more common than many homeowners realize. Our combination of heat, humidity, seasonal temperature changes, and natural concrete slab movement can place tremendous stress on a rigid tile installation. When that movement has nowhere to go, the tile assembly may eventually release and lift.

One of the best ways to help manage this movement is by installing an appropriate 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲, such as systems from 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗫®, 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿®, 𝗠𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗜®, and other reputable manufacturers when the project and substrate require it. Combined with proper surface preparation and industry-recommended installation methods, these systems help reduce stress transfer from the concrete slab to the finished tile installation.

Another issue we frequently see is 𝗟𝘂𝘅𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝘆𝗹 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸 (𝗟𝗩𝗣) 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲.

At first, everything may look perfect.

However, if the tile underneath later tents or becomes loose, that movement can damage the LVP locking system. What could have been a tile repair often becomes a much larger project requiring complete removal and replacement of both the tile and the LVP.

Many homeowners also don't realize another hidden cost.

During tile installation, 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘁 so the flooring slides underneath for a clean, professional finish. When LVP is later installed over the existing tile, those same jambs are often cut a second time.

If both flooring systems must eventually be removed, the door jambs and trim are frequently left cut too high, creating noticeable gaps that usually cannot be corrected without replacing the jambs and trim entirely. This adds unnecessary expense that many homeowners never anticipated.
