Installing taller toilets is a request I have been getting a lot of lately. These toilets may benefit taller individuals or anyone who has a hard time standing/sitting down.

These toilets follow typical rough in specs and usually don’t require any major plumbing modifications to install them.

Toilets are generally 1 of 3 heights. Standard, comfort height, and extra tall. Standard is about 15.5” from finished floor to top of the toilet bowl not including the seat. Comfort height is about 16.5”-17.5” from finished floor, and extra tall is about 19” from finished floor. Then you add the thickness of the toilet seat on top of that.

In many places like Connecticut where I grew up Memorial Day is pretty much the unofficial start to summer. Barbecues, music, friends, and hopefully some great weather. While you’re having an awesome time with friends and family remember the reason that it’s all possible. A bunch of brave men and women either signed up, or were drafted to serve in the most dangerous places in the world. Let us remember the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice, and never made it back home.

Put the finishing touches on this job this morning! The underground sewer lines were attached the the overhead plumbing, and put under a test. Inspection on this one early next week, then on to the next!

This was a fun project. Overhead drainage has always been my favorite part of plumbing. If you’re planning on lifting your home please give me a call!

This customer had a sewer issue that kept coming back every 3-4 months. Yesterday it was decided to pull a toilet and send a camera down the drain line. Ended up finding roots and a cracked fitting. Went back to following day and got it all fixed up!

The 4” SDR two way clean out was replaced with a schedule 40 PVC two way clean out.

Drains can become clogged for a number of reasons. Some of these reasons such as tree roots are out of our control in most cases. There are plenty of things we can do as homeowners to prevent slow/backed up drains.

Kitchen drains are one of the more commonly backed up areas. Most of the time it’s caused by heavy grease build up, or improper use of a garbage disposal. Certain foods definitely should not go down the drain. Grease, rice, and egg shells just to name a few.

If you have to think about flushing it, or pouring it down the drain you probably shouldn’t!

Here is a Ridgid k400 drum style drain machine, and a Ridgid k60 sectional machine. Both are awesome machines to get those drains flowing again!

Do you leave your home for the summer? Wouldn’t you feel more comfortable knowing that you can leave your homes main water valve off, but still have a way for any workers (pool technician, landscapers, etc.)to have access to water without opening your homes main shut off valve.

This customer decided to have a new home shut off valve, and a separate shut off valve that comes before the homes main shut off installed.

New faucets can be a great way to freshen up an old bathroom. This can also be a great diy project if you’re up for it. To know which kind of faucet to buy you need to look at what you currently have. There are 3 basic types of bathroom faucets a 4” spread, 8” spread, and a single hole faucet. Most single hole faucets come with a plate that would cover the holes from an older 4” faucet. The holes on your countertop will dictate which style faucet you need.

If you’re going to attempt this yourself often times the most challenging part of replacing a faucet can be removing the old one. The mounting hardware can be completely rusted. In this case a dermal or oscillating tool would be best to cut out the hardware. Make sure you have safety glasses on when using any tools such as a dermal especially working overhead. Also, be carefully not to cut anything else that could cause damage to the sink or countertop.

Steps to replacing a faucet
1. Turn off water at shut off valve (if they don’t work you can turn the house off, replace the valves)
2. Disconnect old water supply lines from valve and faucet and discard
3. Loosen mounting hardware all the way and remove faucet from countertop.
4. Clean counter top where new faucet will be installed
5. Set new faucet in place and tighten to countertop with provided hardware
6. Install new supply lines from the shut off valves to the faucet
7. Turn valves on and test work
