In honor of the fact that the last batch of sauce is in the canner, we’re enjoying a glass of homemade raspberry lemonade. I’m tired 😅

And this is why I ordered strawberry plants in the middle of summer, even after their fruiting season. Of the 8 plants I checked, they have sent out 21 new baby plants. 💃 Yes they take of space that I could’ve planted something else, but I’m getting so many new established plants before next season. They will be deeply rooted and ready to produce berries instead of focusing on building their root systems to survive.

Have you been postponing learning how to can because you don’t have any of the equipment?

You don’t need anything fancy to water bath can! Just a pot that you can get one inch of water over your jars and a rag at the bottom to set your jars on and you’re good to go 😊

A couple of days ago, someone in our local Facebook group posted that she had rhubarb available. When I asked her how much she was selling it for she said it was free. She had already used what she needed and didn’t want it to go to waste.

I love the idea of giving things away for free, but I also wanted her to know how much we appreciated it. Loralee cut her some of her favorite flowers and we took her a bar of homemade soap. She was so surprised and we were surprised at the amount of rhubarb she gave us.

Tomorrow we’ll turn it into raspberry/rhubarb jam, maybe some strawberry/rhubarb jam, and save some for Thanksgiving pies 🥧

One woman’s generosity of something she had extra of is turning into such a sweet treat in our home. And of course we’ll be taking her some jam once it’s done!

From this to that 😍

It’s always amazing to me how soap is made. These soaps are 6 simple, organic ingredients that you could eat (minus the lye) and turn into something so different.

These bars are made out of organic olive and coconut oil, water, lye (this turns it into soap), essential oils and the colorant.

For the lavender bar, the purple comes from red Moroccan clay and the orange is organic turmeric. You can’t get much simpler than that for bars that look this pretty in my opinion!

The cream color will turn to white as the soaps cure but I was too impatient to wait 😅

I have a few extras if any Illinois friends are interested! $6 individual or 3 for $15 ❤️

Orange creamsicle is scented with orange essential oil and a little hint of vanilla.

The lavender bar is scented with lavender essential oil.

Busy day over here! My basil plant was turned into some delicious pesto and two loaves of soap were made.

Now I have enough pesto for 10 pesto Alfredo dishes and 4 pesto tortas 😋
- I froze the pesto in mini muffin tins so that I can pop them out into a bag and then just grab what I need to add to the sauce without having to thaw it out ahead of time.

I also decided that we needed soap because we’ve been using store bought since we moved in and it’s grossing me out 🤣 so soap today was a last minute addition.

The last photo is the only one from making soap. Yes I realize it’s weird to throw it in but it’s late, I meant to do this hours ago, and tomorrow I’ll share pictures of the pretty soap ones it’s cut!

Did I over plant this little raised bed?? Absolutely. 🤣

Blue- three indeterminate paste tomatoes that are barely being held up by little pepper cages
Red- the biggest basil plant I’ve ever grown
Purple- two bell pepper plants
Yellow- oregano
Orange- dill
Pink- rosemary

It’s so hard to see where one thing starts and what’s taking over what 🙃

Eeeevery night the young birds get so close to going in the coop at night but roost outside 😅 the crazy thing is, they used to go in on their own. I think that now that the young roos are getting older, the older group is starting to push them around a bit.

Hopefully they figure it out soon, or maybe they’ll just wait until they get moved to their permanent coop instead of the tack room which has been acting as their temporary coop. 🤦🏽‍♀️
