A home should be designed around the way you actually live in it.

For this family, that meant understanding how often they host, how many people typically gather, where everyone naturally ends up, and what would make entertaining feel easier.

Those details shaped the home from the beginning.

That’s the value of design-build with Worthing: the architecture, layout, and construction decisions all start with a deeper understanding of the life the home needs to support.

A construction contract shouldn’t leave you guessing.

In this video, Alena walks through five red flags worth questioning before you sign—from vague scope and unclear pricing to missing warranty language and license information.

None of them automatically mean “walk away.” But each one deserves a clear answer.

For an investment this significant, what isn’t written down matters.

The details that matter most are often the ones with a story behind them.

Early in the project, these clients shared a set of carved wooden fish their father had made from driftwood each time a grandchild was born.

We carried that story into the design, giving the pieces a considered place in the home rather than treating them as an afterthought.

That kind of detail is what makes a home feel personal. The design should make room not only for how a family lives, but for the things they want to carry with them.

Choosing a licensed contractor means choosing accountability; proper credentials, insurance, and a professional standard that extends well beyond the day the work is completed.

For a significant investment in your home, who stands behind the work matters just as much as the work itself.

Since 1979, Worthing has built its reputation on both.

In California, fire resilience is part of designing responsibly.

For this home, the client wanted protection beyond what code required. That meant building added resilience into the parts of the house most people will never see; from fire-rated sheathing to fire-resistive attic vents and exterior systems.

Those details fundamentally change how confidently the homeowner can live in it.

At Worthing, thoughtful design means considering not only how a home should feel, but what it may need to withstand.

A seamless construction process is shaped well before the first day on site.

Resolving design and material decisions early allows the construction schedule to move with greater continuity, rather than being dictated by decisions still waiting to be made.

For our clients, that preparation translates into fewer interruptions and a more predictable experience throughout the build.

Every home we build is held to a deeply personal standard.

From the first design decision through construction, Alena stays closely involved to ensure the details, materials, and craftsmanship reflect the level of quality she would expect in her own home.

That standard has shaped Worthing for two generations: build for our clients with the same care we would demand for ourselves.

Our promise is to solve problems before they become visible.

On this project, an issue with the original site layout was identified at the footing stage, early enough to correct it before walls went up and the cost of fixing it multiplied.

That’s the value of experienced oversight: knowing what to look for, when to look for it, and addressing it before it becomes the homeowner’s problem.
