Update 3-10-22
On Tuesday, I was provided the opportunity to take a special visit to a busy part of our area’s oil and gas operations. My good friend, Anthony Foreman, invited me out to Crestwood Midstream’s Herradura Compressor Station, just outside of Carlsbad. Foreman’s company is a part of the project. The station, which has the processing capacity of 100 million standard cubic feet per day, compresses and dehydrates natural gas from surrounding wells. The gas is then sent to high pressure pipeline, where it goes to be processed. Crestwood will be installing multiple devices that continuously monitor for methane emissions on the station.
Anthony and I were joined on the trip by Crestwood’s Jonathan Smith, Will Jaques, Kelly Heard, Mark Donnelly and Mollie Schall, as well as Steve Cummings with AR Foreman Construction.
Crestwood is headquartered in Houston with operations in the Delaware, Powder River, Bakken and Marcellus Basins, but I enjoyed the chance to visit with the local employees who live in Carlsbad. These are the men and women who work every day to provide us with responsibly sourced, domestic energy. Crestwood has also been a great community partner and has sponsored a variety of efforts such as our energy summit and our annual Independence Day celebration. Thank you again for the tour.

In sports, Carlsbad’s basketball season came to an end on Wednesday with a 69-30 playoff loss to undefeated Volcano Vista. Southeast New Mexico teams Hobbs and Artesia were also eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday.
On the girls’ side, the Cavegirls lost to Hobbs, 45-34, in a Tuesday night playoff game. Hobbs, who holds the No. 2 seed, plays La Cueva on Thursday. It was a great basketball season for Carlsbad, as both the boys and girls reached the second round of the playoffs.
While we are all hoping that the MLB lockout will soon come to an end, so we can go back to supporting Carlsbad’s Trevor Rogers, the good news is that Carlsbad’s local baseball season is in full swing. If you are looking for something to do this weekend, the Cavemen Classic Baseball Tournament is taking place all weekend. Carlsbad’s first round game is against Franklin on Thursday. The Cavern City Invitational Tennis Tournament will also be taking place this weekend, so there’s plenty of local sports to watch. The Cavegirls will compete in the Las Cruces softball tournament over the weekend, while track will compete in Roswell.
Congratulations to Carlsbad’s two Business Professionals of America (BPA) teams, who recently competed in their own State Leadership Conference. In total, Carlsbad High School had 18 of 23 students qualify for Nationals and the Early College High School had five out of seven students qualify.
