Today is the last day of Calder-Picasso at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, which is the final stop on the exhibition’s five museum tour, spanning two continents. The show first opened at the Musée Picasso Paris in February 2019, before traveling to the Museo Picasso Málaga; de Young Museum, San Francisco; High Museum of Art, Atlanta; and MFAH.

There are over forty Calder works on view in Tower 2 of the iconic I.M. Pei-designed East Building at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., making it the largest long-term gallery dedicated to the artist in the world. One of several loans from the Calder Foundation, The Big Ear, seen to the left, was made by Calder for his retrospective at MoMA The Museum of Modern Art in late 1943. When the extremely popular show was extended, the Arts Club of Chicago refused to prolong their loan for Red Petals, which was placed prominently in the main entryway. Calder promptly made The Big Ear to fill the void.
