This 1,800-square-foot, fully automated, eight-zone StruXure® Pergola X at the Fishers Art Center was designed to feel like part of the building—not an addition to it.
The long engineered spans allowed us to keep the patio open and unobstructed, without intermediate posts. We also customized the aluminum beams to reflect the appearance of the exposed I-beams on the adjoining building, tying the pergola naturally into the overall architectural design.
The eight roof zones and bulkheads were carefully designed and aligned with the spaces between the building’s doors and windows, further integrating the structure with the architecture.
All eight motorized zones operate in sync or independently, providing precise control of sunlight, shade and ventilation throughout this large outdoor space. When rain is detected, the louvers close automatically and the integrated drainage system manages the water.
A technically complex project—and a beautifully integrated result.
