Cary High’s Interact Club is collecting gently used suitcases in conjunction with our parent organization, the Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club. All donations will be given to the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Wacamaw, for children to put their belongings in when they leave the home vs a trash bag. Drop off locations: 308 Trafalgar Lane off of Cary Pkwy or 331 Dry Ave, in downtown Cary near Cary Elementary. Deadline for collecting is 9/26.

Cary High has an amazing Behavioral Support / Curriculum Support classroom that was recently made to move to an older classroom in an older building on campus. We are attempting to “makeover” this room as it has exposed pipes, old unusable heating units still in place, old chalk boards on walls etc. I have asked one of the teachers to create a wish list and it is below. If you feel so inclined please take a moment to look it over. For those who do not know, the purpose of this class is for students who need extra support with homework as well as extra support with emotional support. They de-escalate many students which allow them to continue in a learning environment without impact to other students.

It’s not very often I asked for financial support but as some of you know, serving as the Cary Kildaire Rotary Youth Coordinator for the Cary High Interact Club is one of my greatest honors.

On Feb . 12 the Interact Club will be raising money for our 2nd Annual Swimming for Scholarships fundraiser!! The scholarship application is available to all seniors within the club who compete 30hrs of community service.

We are looking for donors to support students either by pledging $ per lap or a flat donation.

Got your mums out? Always keep your fall mums in full sun! This promotes the very best flower opening and color development.

More tips to keep your mums thriving and not just surviving:

🔸Keep your mums consistently watered. This is a greater challenge when growing your mums in containers. If the soil is dry, it’s time to water your mums. Do not let them wilt. Once a flowering fall mum is water-stressed, it turns off flowering. This doesn’t necessarily kill the plant, but the flowering will not recover.

🔸Don’t water the foliage, but direct water to the base of the plant and continue until water starts to flow from the bottom of the container. Wet leaves make it easy for fungal growth to set in, making plants look bad.

🔸If you need instant impact, then choose a plant in full flower. To extend the display period, select plants that have tight flower buds with just a little bit of color showing. Over time, the buds will open up, making the flowers last longer.
