Sprinkler Systems don’t need to be turned on before May in Wyoming, even in drought conditions. Trees and plants that were planted in the last 5 years need watered throughout the winter with precipitation and/or hoses. Make sure to unhook your hoses after you use them. Wyoming's last freeze every year is around the weekend of Mother's Day. If you water before then, you will have to water more than usual to keep your grass green. The later in May that you start watering, the better.
In drought conditions, towns and cities create watering restrictions for watering lawns, with which you will not be able to water your lawn close to as much as a normal summer.
In order for grass to grow, soil temperatures have to be at least 55 degrees. That means that low temperatures must be at least 40 degrees and high temperatures must be at least 70 degrees.
