BANG.
The kind of sound that snaps your eyes open before your brain even understands what happened.
You lay there in the dark staring at the ceiling.
Silence.
Your heart slows.
You convince yourself it was nothing.
Maybe something fell over outside.
Maybe the wind.
Then you drift back asleep.
Morning comes too fast.
Coffee brewing.
Kids moving through the house.
Half awake, you walk into the garage, hit the wall button, and hear the faint click from the operator.
The light comes on.
But the door doesn’t move.
You press it again.
Nothing.
Now you’re fully awake.
You mumble under your breath:
“What the…”
You stare at the door like somehow looking harder will make it open.
You pull the red emergency release cord.
It won’t disengage.
That’s when the nervous feeling starts creeping into your stomach.
You grab the handle and try lifting the door manually.
It feels like it weighs a thousand pounds.
Now panic sets in.
You’re trapped.
Work starts in less than an hour.
The kids need to get to school.
The cats are inside.
And suddenly that loud BANG from the middle of the night comes rushing back into your head.
Broken spring.
Most people never think about their garage door system…
until 200 pounds of tension violently lets go while they sleep.
Behind every garage door is a machine under constant stress.
Thousands of cycles.
Thousands of pounds moving year after year.
And sometimes…
failure announces itself in the middle of the night.
