My recommendation is to maintain the two-day per week watering schedule but add a few minutes to the duration for each zone. Deep watering less often encourages deep roots. Deep roots =stronger grass/plants/trees.

As a result of customer conservation efforts, Castle Rock Water returned to Stage 1 drought restrictions on Sept. 1.

Castle Rock Water invoked Stage 2 drought restrictions on July 19 due to extremely hot and dry weather, limited surface water supplies and sustained excessive demand. As a result of customer conservation efforts, Castle Rock Water returned to Stage 1 drought restrictions on Sept. 1.

Over the past month, Castle Rock Water customers responded to the restrictions, significantly reducing outdoor irrigation and lowering daily water demand by 10 to 20%, nearing the Town’s Stage 2 drought 25% conservation goal. Improved imported water supplies, more favorable weather conditions and other positive factors have also provided enough relief to reduce the mandatory restrictions.

While recent rainfall has provided some relief to landscapes, drought conditions continue and local renewable surface water supplies remain limited. Castle Rock Water asks customers to continue to conserve water even as September brings cooler temperatures and less need for outdoor irrigation.

Under Stage 1 drought, water conservation is voluntary, and the every-third-day watering schedule is back in effect. However, Castle Rock Water encourages customers to remain on the published two-day-per-week schedule to continue conserving water.

As usual, customers may only irrigate before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Water Wiser designations are also reinstated, allowing those customers with the designation to irrigate based on landscape needs rather than a prescribed schedule.
Tier 2 water budget allocations have returned to regular levels. Limits on activities such as power washing and car washing are lifted, and hand watering is permitted on any day. Watering exemption permits are again available for new landscape installations.

The Stage 1 drought water use reduction goal is 10%. Lower seasonal irrigation needs, coupled with a strong customer response, are expected to keep water demand levels manageable.

Whose line is it?

Understanding who owns which part of the water service line can help property owners with maintenance and repairs.

Castle Rock Water owns and maintains water and sewer lines in the street and up to the connection point at each property. For water service, that connection is the curb stop, typically located near the edge of the property at the sidewalk. For sewer service, the connection point is the sewer main in the street.

Property owners are responsible for the water and sewer lines inside the home or building, and the service lines leading from the property to these connection points.

- Periodically clean sewer lines, and don’t flush trash, oils or wipes down the toilet.
- The meter, though inside your property, is owned by the Town and should remain accessible at all times.

- Check insurance coverage for the waterlines outside of the walls of your property.

Why does this timer not activate any of the zones? It IS plugged into AC power. Hint: there are only four valves.

If you have a sprinkler head that seems to run nonstop, the problem is not the head, but at the valve. A head will drain for a bit after the zone runs, but it should stop within the hour if not much sooner in this situation, the old diaphragm required replacement.
