While it may seem random that your sprinkler head springs a leak underneath, it may be due to pressure pushing apart a poorly installed coupling. Years of the zone activating and deactivating pushed out the coupling from the poly line causing an underground leak that finally reveals itself at the surface. In this situation, I dug out the head down to the coupling that was (to my) elbow deep. I reconnected it using two clips on each side of the connector (four total). This disconnection forced mud into the line, so the subsequent head no longer sprays. The head must be removed, the zone flushed, then reconnected for proper activation.

Communications:
The ONLY way to reach The Sprinkler Lady is to TEXT 703.626.7813. I track my communications via text and save them, basically, forever.
⃘ If you call, I let it go to voicemail.
⃘ If you leave a voicemail, my greeting says to send a TEXT.
⃘ If you send a message to The Sprinkler Lady on Facebook, my auto-response says to send a TEXT.
⃘ If you send a message to my personal Facebook account, I will ignore it.
⃘ If you send an email...to where are you sending an email??

I have 800+ clients. While I do have a pretty good memory, I cannot recall every conversation, address, service requested, recommendation, price, etc. But if it is in writing (TEXT), we are both clear. I hope you find this information helpful. 😁

This diagram may help you understand why you should not completely close your exterior ball valves in the event of an imminent freeze: any water inside the ball valve becomes trapped when the valve is closed. Temperatures drop, that water freezes, expands, and then breaks the ball valve. During short-term freezes, it is better to leave the valves fully open or vented at about 45 degrees, allowing space for the water, if any, to expand safely.

The Weather Underground app seems to be more accurate than The Weather Channel for forecasts. That said, if you activated your sprinklers already, I encourage you to deactivate the water from inside today. Draining would be even better. Here are instructions to help you.

💧 Irrigation season has officially begun in Castle Rock. Watering schedules are now in effect through Sept. 30.

After a dry winter, it’s a good idea to give your yard a drink if temperatures are above 40°. But early in the season, watering every third day may be more than is necessary — a deep weekly soak can be just what those roots need. 🌱 Generally, it is recommended to water once a week in May, twice a week in June and then the every-third-day schedule in July — amping up as the temperatures do too.

Find the full watering schedule, irrigation and plant health tips, weather stations and much more at CRconserve.com.

Tire marks provided by a road crew. They fell within only an inch of the rotator head at the corner of the driveway. If you see this on your sidewalk, test your system as quickly as possible, especially if they’re still in the area.

If you activated your sprinklers, please follow these instructions to drain the line TODAY. After Saturday, reverse these actions to reactivate. If you have a drain cap on the outside elbow below the backflow preventer, be sure to loosen that after closing the interior valve. DO NOT close the valve handles (on the PVB outside)!!

If you activated your sprinklers or had them activated, be sure to watch the weather. Snow is not what matters; temperature is. My recommendation is that if it’s going to drop to 35 or below that you turn off the water INSIDE at the valve (not the time to the sprinklers and drain. When the temperatures are going to go back above 35, reactivate the water.
