🌊Your water provider sent you that backflow test notice for a reason.
If you own or manage a commercial property in the Denver metro area, your backflow prevention assemblies are required to be tested annually. That's not optional — it's a condition of your water service. Miss the deadline and you're looking at violation notices, fines, or your water provider shutting off service until you're in compliance.

💧Here's what most property owners don't know: the assembly on your water line is the only thing preventing contaminated water from flowing backward into the public drinking water supply. Boilers, fire suppression systems, irrigation, chemical feed equipment — all of it can push or pull non-potable water back into the main if that device fails. Annual testing confirms it's actually working.

đźš°Kaizen Backflow handles commercial backflow testing and repair across the Denver metro. Licensed, insured, and I handle the test reports and submit compliance paperwork directly to your water provider so you don't have to chase it.
If you've got a notice sitting on your desk or you're not sure when your assemblies were last tested — send me a message or request a quote. I'll get you compliant and off your provider's radar.

💧 Spring Irrigation Startup — Don't Skip This Step
Warmer weather is here and irrigation systems are coming back online across the Denver metro. Before you turn yours on there's one thing worth checking that most homeowners don't think about — your backflow preventer.
Your irrigation system is connected directly to your home's potable water supply. Without a properly functioning backflow prevention assembly, contaminants from the ground — fertilizers, pesticides, bacteria — can reverse flow back into the water you drink if pressure drops in the main line. It's not common, but when it happens it's a serious health risk.

Signs your vacuum breaker may have a problem:

- Dripping or leaking when the system is off — the most common sign. A healthy vacuum breaker should be completely dry when not in use. Constant dripping usually means an internal seal has worn out or debris is holding the valve open

- Water spraying from the sides of the assembly — indicates a cracked housing or failed seal, needs immediate attention

- Weak or uneven pressure at your irrigation heads — could point to a partially stuck or failed assembly restricting flow

- Visible corrosion or mineral buildup — heavy scaling around the assembly can prevent it from seating and closing

- Assembly is more than 5 years old and has never been inspected — vacuum breakers degrade over time, especially through freeze and thaw cycles

Spring startup puts your system under pressure for the first time in months — that's often when a failing assembly makes itself known. Better to catch it now than deal with a contamination issue mid-season.

Kaizen Backflow serves the Denver metro area with certified backflow testing and repair. If something doesn't look right on your assembly this spring — reach out and we'll take a look.

🚰 The Hidden Risk Most Water Systems Don’t Talk About: Thermal Expansion Backflow

Most people think backflow only comes from irrigation or obvious cross-connections—but one of the most overlooked risks is happening inside the building.

When water is heated (like in a boiler or water heater), it expands. In a closed plumbing system, that pressure has nowhere to go… so it can force water backward into the main supply.

⚠️ Why this matters:
That reverse flow can carry:
• Corrosion byproducts (lead, copper, iron)
• Sediment buildup
• Bacteria from stagnant sections of piping

All pushed back toward the public water system—or redistributed throughout the building.

🔍 What most people miss:
Even if you have a backflow assembly installed, improper pressure control (like a failed or missing expansion tank) can stress the system and increase the risk of backflow conditions.

🛠️ What professionals look for:
A real backflow inspection isn’t just pass/fail—it’s evaluating:
• System pressure behavior
• Thermal expansion control
• Signs of internal cross-connection risk

đź“… Bottom line:
Backflow prevention isn’t just about the device—it’s about understanding how the entire water system behaves under pressure.
