Plumbing Tip of the Week:
If in doubt, throw it out! Do not flush it.

Not everything should go down the drain. Even items labeled as flushable are in fact not - I am looking at you "flushable wipes."

Fats and oils will cool in pipes and can cause blockages.

Potential consequences of putting the wrong things down your drains:
-Clogged pipes
-Sewer backups
-Groundwater contamination from chemical disposal
-Drain field damage
-Costly repairs- for you the homeowner or for your city (funded by tax payer dollers- so, also you)

Did you know that by having your water tank serviced you can extend its life? It should be drained and flushed once a year.

A typical tank style water heater lasts between 6-12 years.

Signs your water tank is nearing the end of its useful life:

1. Strange noises (hissing, rumbling, banging, or popping)
2. Decreased water pressure
3. Less hot water- do you run out of hot water faster than you used to?
4. It is leaking
5. Your water is discolored or rusty looking

If you water heater is over 10 years old consider looking at having it replaced.

NK Plumbing LLC is now up and running. We are locally owned and operated by Nik and Julie Kemnitz. Nik has over 15 years of experience that includes both commercial and residential work. He runs the day to day operations and will be on the jobsites. Julie is a Loan Officer with First United Bank and does the book keeping.
