When you need to hire a roofing professional, NTRCA suggests asking many questions and researching the company thoroughly. Among those, one quick check we suggest is to take a look at the license plates of the salesperson knocking on your door or, if you’re considering using a company working on your neighbor’s home, look at their crew’s trucks. If you don’t see any (or see very few) Texas license plates, that’s a clue that they probably aren’t a local company with a permanent North Texas address. Because there is zero regulation of the roofing industry in Texas, when storm season hits the area, we get an influx of out-of-state/town companies flooding neighborhoods. Once the storm work opportunities are over, they leave ... often leaving customers in a bind should they have any issues. When you need to hire a roofing professional, one of the key questions to ask any roofing contractor is: Do You Carry General Liability Insurance? If not, move on and talk to a roofing contractor who does. A legitimate roofing company with liability insurance won’t hesitate to show you a copy of their certificate of insurance (in fact, there’s probably a copy of it in their standard information package). With this in hand, call the insurance agency listed on the certificate to verify the insurance, what it covers (make sure it covers roofing work, because some don’t) and ensure that it’s still in effect. A National Weather Service survey team has determined an EF-0 tornado with wind speeds of 85 mph tracked for 1 mile through North Fort Worth in the Crawford Farms to Vista Meadows subdivisions.
