The Englman Residence is a radiant reinterpretation of Dutch (South African) Colonial architecture, brought to life with sculptural precision and a sense of place. Its iconic white parapet walls rise in graceful, carved silhouettes, creating an interplay of light and shadow through the day. These sculptural forms are beautifully complemented by a Bermuda roof, grounding the home in a sense of heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless coastal charm.
The architecture blends historical resonance with contemporary refinement. The parapet walls frame intimate outdoor spaces and lend the home a serene, almost sculptural purity, while the roofline introduces an enduring warmth. Together, they establish a residence that feels rooted in tradition and refreshingly original within its Winter Park setting.
Inside, the home unfolds into a series of vibrant, themed interiors that celebrate color, personality, and a joyful eclecticism. Drawing inspiration from the breezy exuberance of Palm Beach and the glamorous ease of old Hollywood, the rooms are bright, expressive, and full of life. Well‑proportioned spaces provide an architectural framework, allowing bold hues, layered textures, and sculptural furnishings to shine.
A remarkable collection of objets d’art animates the interiors, creating a dynamic dialogue between eras, cultures, and styles. The mix of new and old décor—contemporary pieces alongside antiques and global finds—gives the home a curated richness that feels sophisticated and deeply personal. Every room becomes its own experience, yet the overall composition remains cohesive, confident, and balanced.
At the heart of the project is a spirited collaboration with the owner, whose creative vision infused the design process with imagination and joy. This partnership shaped a residence that is not only architecturally compelling but also emotionally resonant—a home that reflects both expert craftsmanship and the vibrant personality of the people who live within it.
