When it comes to replacing a drainage system beneath a concrete foundation whether in a home or a commercial building.. it’s rarely a simple fix. Most of the time, the motivation is clear: the old pipes have given up. Maybe the cast iron has crumbled with age, riddled with cracks and holes, or perhaps small section has simply disappeared
Here’s something most people don’t realize: tying new pipes into what’s left of the old cast iron isn’t always straightforward. But there’s hope! If we’re careful, we can chip away at the concrete surrounding the pipe and often discover a section that’s still as sturdy as the day it was installed. That’s the piece we can trust.
Of course, getting to that point is no small feat. As a homeowner or builder, you might not see what goes on below the slab. It’s hot, cramped, and the air can be thick with dust. Every day, we wear respirators to protect our lungs from silica, and safety goggles to shield our eyes from flying debris like chunks of cast iron or, occasionally, questionable moisture from inside those old pipes. When we grind away with specialized blades, it’s gritty, demanding work.
At Leak Stop Plumbing, we take pride in more than just our craftsmanship. We put safety at the heart of everything we do because protecting our team is just as important as fixing your pipes.
