Hello Collin County! March Means Pests Are Waking Up! Here’s What to Watch For -
As temperatures start warming up in March, many pests that slowed down during winter become active again. This is the time of year we start seeing a surge in a few common household invaders:
• Ants – Warmer soil brings ants out searching for food and water, which often leads them straight into kitchens and pantries.
• Termites – Early spring is the start of termite swarming season, when reproductive termites leave their colonies to start new ones. Seeing wings near windows or doors can be an early warning sign.
• Spiders – As other insects become active, spiders follow the food source and start appearing more frequently in garages, sheds, and corners of the home. We just saw these in our home, so we knew spring had hit!
• Wasps – Queen wasps begin emerging and looking for places to build new nests under eaves, patios, and rooflines. One area of our back porch is prime real estate for wasps and we have to kick-out the move-ins each year.
• Rodents – Mice and rats that sheltered indoors during winter may still be active and looking for easy food sources.
