Sneak peek at our first “Akke Home” project. Full pics to follow. Thanks so, so much for hiring us and trusting us (as crazy as I am) Johnny and Danielle!!! What a fun and successful collab!!! And thanks for crafting this new concept Johnny (details on that to follow as well)! Since it’s his office, Johnny had final say on everything (he’s a budding designer, himself). But once Danielle mentioned that she loves chevron, my obsessive mentality kicked into overdrive. The final piece is the little side table — still needs its final coat of oil. At first, we gambled and tried a Warn Navy stain. As is often the case in design, an unfortunate beginning has led to a fortunate ending. The blue was a distracting attention hog (once Johnny ‘demanded’ that it be changed to Rustic Beige to match the other pieces, I named the little loudmouth “Nope-olean”.) Because we water-popped it, we couldn’t get the navy completely out of the deepest parts of the open grain. That was a win, though, because the subtle navy undertones should work beautifully to integrate the blue of the bar cabinet with the other oak pieces.

Update on the status of our ‘Oragami Staircase’. Super fun collab with !!! And excellent job finishing the oak by ! Next up is the Venetian plaster on the bands between the oak, the herringbone backsplash on the bar and the glass panels for the railing. Pretty psyched with this on! Westhampton Beach, New York

We’re not in the business of concrete countertop fabrication (Ben Turley at Surfacescapes is our go-to-guy for that), but this one for is kinda soup-to-nuts, so we gave it a whirl. The bar is Ipe bands on aluminum standoffs over modern groove cedar. Gonna do something pretty dope with the TV wall next. @ Westhampton Beach, New York
