Heating season is coming!

So here’s your regular reminder to check your furnace filter.

Most standard 1-inch filters need changed around every 2 to 3 months, but there really isn’t a schedule that works for every home.

How often you need to change your filter depends on the type and size of your filter, your furnace and your home. Factors like having pets that shed can also mean you'll need to change your filter more often.

And don’t assume the highest MERV filter on the shelf is automatically the best one. If a filter gets too restrictive, it can actually make it harder for your HVAC system to move air.

If someone has to add refrigerant to your HVAC sytem every year, there’s a reason.

People think that air conditioners “use up” Freon, but it really just cycles around your sealed system.

So if the Freon levels keep getting lower, that usually points to something like a leak in your evaporator coil. Adding more refrigerant may get your A/C cooling again for now, but it doesn’t fix the problem.
