Dear Turf Nerd clients, friends, vendors and friendly competitors:

This summer, my beautiful 18-year-old daughter, Kaylee Watkins, died in a tragic accident. Losing Kaylee has brought a depth of heartbreak and sorrow that is difficult to put into words. I miss her more than I can say.

During the weeks after Kaylee’s death, I stepped away from Turf Nerd to be with my family and to begin grieving this unimaginable loss. I am incredibly grateful for the patience, kindness and grace our clients showed me during that time. Some of you reached out with kind words, cards, prayers and condolences, while others simply gave me the time and space I needed to be with my family. Both meant more to me than you probably realize. Thank you.

Continuing Kaylee’s Legacy

Kaylee had a phrase tattooed on her shoulder that meant a great deal to her:

“In Times Of Darkness, Be The Light.”

Those words reflected the way Kaylee chose to live. She showed me that humor, kindness, patience, generosity and empathy can bring light into someone’s darkest moments, and sometimes change the direction of someone’s life.

I hope you’ll help me carry Kaylee’s light forward. Give someone a genuine compliment. Use humor to brighten someone’s day. Offer kindness without expectations. Forgive quickly. Be patient with someone who is struggling. Show empathy to someone who needs it. Be generous when you are able.

If each of us chooses to Be The Light, then a little piece of Kaylee continues through every person whose life we touch.

Losing Kaylee has reminded me just how precious and fragile our time together really is. Hug the people you love. Tell them you love them. Forgive when you can, and don’t wait to show someone how much they mean to you.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my daughter. And thank you for giving me the time and space I needed to grieve and be with my family. It meant more to me than I can express.

I am heartbroken to announce that our office will be closed until Monday, July 13, when Braely returns from maternity leave, due to the tragic loss of my 18-year-old daughter, Kaylee.

Kaylee was a passenger in an ATV vehicle accident in Kentucky. Tragically, she did not survive.

Kaylee had just graduated from Fairmont High School and was excited to attend Wright State University this fall to study early childhood education. She was going to be a wonderful teacher. She had a special gift with young children and was incredibly kind, patient, and nurturing. I am so proud of the young woman she became.

Please keep my wife, Andry, our family, and me in your prayers as we walk through this incredibly difficult time.

Braely will begin responding to messages when she returns next week. We appreciate your patience as she works through everything that accumulated during her leave.

Please hug your loved ones every chance you get. You never know when it may be the last opportunity to do so.

Turf Nerd was proud to sponsor this year's Grand Marshall Award winning float in the Americana Parade honoring our resource officers.
The turnout was amazing despite the weather forecast.
FHS Biology Teacher, Steve Cotrone, worked on the U.S.S. Enterprise for over a month to ensure this crowd pleaser was ready to launch.
