Just a quick heads-up from Twin City Locating!

As sole operator, I'll be taking some time off for family vacation from September 23rd through October 8th.

During that time, I’ll be away from the field and unavailable for private utility locating, GPR, ground fault detection, and other locating services.

I’ll be back and ready to get back to locating on October 9th.

If you have a project coming up, feel free to reach out ahead of time to get something scheduled before I leave or for the Friday I return. I appreciate all the support and business given to me this year by the community, and I’m looking forward to getting back out there!

I love this!

I have only encountered hives in already safe areas (away from infrastructure).

As soon as my twin boys are old enough, I am going to get back into beekeeping with their help.

A potential home buyer recently called Twin City Locating for a GPR scan before closing on a property.

The home was on city water and city sewer, but there was an old permit from about 70 years ago that mentioned a possible heating oil tank. They wanted the yard checked before buying, instead of finding out the hard way later.

Using GPR, I found an area under the fence with signs consistent with a potential underground storage tank. During the same scan, I also located what appeared to be an abandoned unknown septic line and an old tank in the backyard where I circled the lid location in front of the shed.

This is a good reminder: just because a home is currently on city sewer and water does not mean there are no old private utilities, abandoned lines, tanks, or previous systems still underground.

Old permits, past property use, and buried utilities can leave a lot behind. A private locate or GPR scan can help identify concerns before digging, buying, building, fencing, landscaping, or starting repairs.

Think you’re safe because you’re only digging a few inches? Not always.

This private electrical line was located just inches beneath the grass near a home in Shelton up in Mason County.
Underground utilities do not always follow a “minimum depth,” and private lines can be much shallower than homeowners expect.

Before digging for landscaping, fence posts, drainage, irrigation repairs, trenching, or yard projects, it is worth knowing what may be under the surface. Standard utility marking does not always cover private lines on your property, such as power to shops, wells, garages, outbuildings, irrigation systems, or other privately owned utilities.

⚠️ “I didn’t know it did that!”

That’s one of the most common things I hear after locating underground utilities.

A recent customer called Twin City Locating because they had a water leak somewhere in their driveway and believed the power line feeding their workshop might be running through that same area.

They were already digging to find the leak and had cut through some large tree roots with a chainsaw. Wanting to be safe before going any farther, they called Twin City Locating — Lewis County’s premier choice for finding underground utilities.

Good thing they did.

The power line to the workshop was located running directly across one of the holes they had already opened up and dug two feet - just inches below where they had stopped cutting roots near a tree, where the power line is under it by less than 3".

Sometimes we don't know what is on our properties!

This customer didn't remember having an easement for a drainage cut through the middle of his property, until Twin City Locating came to locate the entire property with the latest ground penetrating radar system and electromagnetic locator for his private power lines.

Found that his drain pipes connected to this main drainage system, before being discharged off site. He wanted to hook water back up in the shop, so not only finding the drainage lines, but located the private power, his water line, and his sewer lateral.
