This is one of those projects that required serious planning from the start. We lifted an existing patio so the homeowner could have a pool installed and then rebuilt the entire outdoor space around it. This driveway upgrade is one we are really proud of. A mixed pattern paver layout that gives the whole front of the home a clean and polished look that concrete just cannot replicate. Real job sites do not always go as planned. This week our crew pulled up an old patio and found a concrete pad sitting underneath it that had to come out before we could move forward. There is more concrete to remove later this week as well. This is the kind of thing that happens on real projects and it is exactly why experience and problem solving matter as much as the finished product. Stay tuned to see how this one develops. On this project we went with HydroSand instead of regular dry poly sand and there is a good reason for it. HydroSand is a permeable polymeric sand which means water can pass through the joints rather than being locked out. Around a pool you are constantly dealing with water coming off the deck and you want that water moving through and draining naturally. Regular poly sand locks the joints tight which works great in a lot of applications but around a pool permeable is the smarter choice. It is one of those details most people never think about but it makes a real difference in how the patio performs long term.

Here is a look at some of the plantings going into one of our current projects. Every plant was selected with intention, whether for color, structure, or screening. Firelight Hydrangeas and Boston Ivy anchor the front bed, Starlight Coreopsis and Walker’s Low Catmint add color as they fill in, Royal Purple Smoke Bushes finish off the bed, Ground Hug Chokeberries nestle under a Japanese Maple, three Regal Prince Oaks frame the front yard, a Sweet Bay Magnolia and Arborvitae screen the generator, and Alice Oakleaf Hydrangeas border the hot tub wall. We are really proud of this one. Watch the full patio come together around this pool from start to finish using Unilock Beacon Hill pavers. A staircase leads up from the pool deck to the fire pit area above, tying the entire outdoor space together into something really special. Projects like this are why we do what we do.
