Pool Myth #2: The robot vacuum handles all storm cleanup.

Pool robots are amazing, aren't they? But just like AI, they aren't human, so that means they can't see what's unique to your pool and what's going on in and around it.

Phoenix storms can leave behind dust, leaves, palm fronds, dirt, and debris that affect your baskets, filter, water chemistry, and overall circulation.

A robot vacuum can help clean the pool floor but has limited capacity for storm cleanup. It also does not check your chemical levels, empty your baskets, brush the walls, or make sure your equipment is running the way it should.

Our recommendation? After a storm, let the robot do its part, then let us humans give the rest of the pool a little attention, too.

Pool chemistry can feel like one of those things that should be simple… that is, until you start hearing words like chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness. You aren't a scientist and didn't learn about water chemistry in school, but we did!

Knowing about pool chemistry is easy for us, which is why we put together a Pool Chemistry Cheat Sheet that breaks down the basics, including chlorine levels, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and common pool water problems Arizona pool owners deal with.

Once you know what to watch for, it is much easier to keep your water swim-ready.

It's raining! Does it always help?

Pool Myth #1: Rainwater fills the pool, so it helps.

We get why this sounds right! Free water from the sky feels like a little win, especially in Phoenix.

But during monsoon season, rain can bring dust, debris, and organic material into your pool. It can also dilute your chemicals and throw off your water balance.

So while rain may raise the water level, it does not always help your pool stay clean or balanced.

After a storm, it is a good idea to check your baskets, skim out debris, brush the pool, and test and treat the water once things calm down.

Or call us! We know exactly what to look for before and after the storm. 480-694-1158

After a Phoenix storm rolls through, your pool may need a little extra attention.

Here are 3 things to check once the weather clears:

1. First, check your baskets. Leaves, dust, and debris can build up quickly, making it harder for your pool to circulate properly.

2. Next, check your cleaner and water flow. The cleaner should be moving around the bottom of the pool or your in-floor heads should be rotating between zones.

3. Last, check your water clarity. If the water looks cloudy, green, or dull, it is a good idea to test, sanitize and rebalance it.

A quick post-storm check can go a long way in keeping your pool ready for the next swim!

During monsoon season, we get a lot of questions from Phoenix pool owners, so we figured we would answer a few of them here, just in case you have the same ones! Here's one question we get a lot.

Do I need to cover my pool during a monsoon?

Answer: Usually? No.

We know it sounds like a good idea, but with the wind, a pool cover can turn into a giant backyard kite pretty quickly.

The better move is to prep your pool before the storm, leave it running during the storm and clean it up after. Before the storm backwash sand filters, empty baskets, and make sure the cleaner is moving. After the storm, skim what you can, empty the baskets, brush the pool, backwash or clean filters and test the water. Leave the pump running until the pool is clean.

A little preparation is all you need.

Time for another pool FAQ! Here is one we get a few times a year: "How long will my pool filter last in Phoenix?"

Arizona pools put filters through a lot with the year-round use and Phoenix weather. Most pool filters can last several years, but regular cleanings and maintenance make a huge difference in how well they perform and how long they last. A dirty or struggling filter can lead to cloudy water, poor circulation, and extra strain on your equipment, so if you notice any of these things, get it checked out asap.

If your pool has been harder to keep clean lately, your filter might be trying to tell you something!

Arizona heat can do a number on your pool in the summertime.

When temps climb, chlorine burns off faster, water evaporates quicker, algae has a better chance of showing up, and your pool equipment works overtime trying to keep everything moving. Pumps, filters, seals, and motors all feel the pressure when it is 110+ degrees outside and your pool is being used nonstop.

That is why it's important that your pool care is consistent with weekly maintenance.

Your pool works hard all summer, but AZ Oasis works harder!
