Sometimes “clean edging” gets taken too far.

This is what happens when grass along landscape edges is repeatedly trimmed too short or scalped over time. The turf thins out, the soil becomes exposed, and before long w**ds move in and become a constant battle.

A crisp edge should still leave healthy grass behind. Cutting too aggressively may look clean for a short time, but it can create long-term problems like:
• Bare soil
• W**d invasion
• Weak turf growth
• Extra maintenance and herbicide needs

Healthy turf is always the best w**d prevention.

A good reminder that proper trimming height matters just as much as proper mowing height.

We’ve finally started getting some much-needed rain and cooler conditions, so lawns are beginning to green back up and actively grow again. 🌧️🌱

Unfortunately, spots like this are already showing signs of drought stress from the dry stretch we had to start the season. Even though conditions are improving, stressed turf can take time and consistent moisture to fully recover.

A few things homeowners may notice right now:
• Straw-colored or tan patches
• Uneven green-up
• Thin areas that seem slower to bounce back
• Heat-stressed spots near concrete and driveways

The good news is many lawns will improve with steady rainfall, proper mowing height, and patience. Keeping the mower height up during dry periods helps protect the root system and reduce additional stress.

Not every brown spot means the lawn is dead — a lot of it is simply stressed and trying to recover.

🌧️ “It’s going to rain… should w**ds still be sprayed?”

Yes — in many cases, spraying before a rain is perfectly fine as long as the product has time to dry on the plant first.

Most professional w**d control products only need a short dry time before they become rainfast. Once the application dries to the leaf surface, rain usually won’t wash it away.

One big reason we can spray confidently ahead of weather is because we use high-quality surfactants in our applications.

What’s a surfactant?A surfactant helps the spray:• Stick to the w**d better• Spread evenly across the leaf surface• Pe*****te the waxy coating on w**ds• Improve absorption into the plant

Without a good surfactant, spray droplets can bead up and roll right off the leaf — especially on hard-to-control w**ds.

Timing, temperature, wind, and dry time all matter more than simply seeing rain in the forecast. That’s why professional applications aren’t just “spray and hope.”

If conditions aren’t right, we won’t spray. But a storm later in the day doesn’t always mean treatment has to wait. 🌱.

Why Roundup isn’t a substitute for string trimming 👇

We’ve all seen it — brown circles around signs, poles, railings, and mailboxes from repeated spraying.

While non-selective herbicides like Roundup can be useful in certain situations, using them as a replacement for proper trimming often creates more problems than it solves.

• Dead brown patches don’t look clean or professional
• Overspray can damage surrounding healthy turf
• Bare spots invite more w**ds over time
• Repeated spraying can thin and weaken the lawn edge

Proper string trimming keeps areas neat while maintaining a healthy, full lawn appearance.

Herbicides are tools — not shortcuts.

We’re finally seeing daytime and nighttime temperatures looking much more favorable for broadleaf w**d control going forward.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature still has another challenge for us this week — wind. With the forecast calling for windy conditions most of the week, spraying opportunities will be limited as we continue to prioritize safe and effective applications.

We appreciate everyone’s patience this spring. As soon as conditions cooperate, we’ll be out getting after those dandelions, clover, creeping charlie, and other broadleaf w**ds.

Thank you for supporting local!

Seeing dandelions already? You might want to wait…

We get a lot of requests to spray early in the spring—but timing is everything when it comes to w**d control.

Even though w**ds are popping up, when nighttime temps are still cold:
❌ They’re not taking in treatment as well
❌ Results can be weaker or short-lived
❌ You may end up needing another application

Another big factor 👇
Not all w**d seeds have germinated yet—so spraying too early can mean more w**ds showing up later anyway.

When we wait for consistent warmer temps:
✅ Better absorption
✅ Stronger, longer-lasting control
✅ Better results the first time

Don’t waste a spray—timing matters.

🌱 When is lawn rolling actually a good idea?

Lawn rolling can be helpful—but only in the right situations. It’s best used in spring when the soil is slightly moist (not soaked) to smooth out minor bumps caused by frost heave or uneven ground over winter.

✅ Helps level small surface imperfections
✅ Can improve seed-to-soil contact after overseeding

But here’s where a lot of people go wrong…

⚠️ Using a roller that’s too heavy can do more harm than good.
Excessive weight leads to soil compaction, which:
• Restricts root growth
• Reduces water and nutrient absorption
• Leads to thinner, weaker turf over time

Instead of a healthier lawn, you can end up creating long-term issues that are harder (and more expensive) to fix.

💡 The key: Light rolling, done at the right time, with the right equipment.

If your lawn feels like it needs more than just a light roll, it may actually benefit more from aeration instead.

Our Soil Flush service helps restore lawn health by flushing excess salts and contaminants from the soil. Winter ice melt, pet urine, and other buildup can damage turf, causing yellowing, thinning, and dead spots. Using a specialized treatment followed by deep watering, we move harmful salts down and away from the root zone—helping protect your lawn and promote healthier growth throughout the season.
