Our Columbia and Charleston divisions stayed busy this weekend after the recent storms, handling uprooted trees, trees leaning into other trees, and trees that had fallen onto structures.
If your tree was struck by lightning:
• Stay away from the tree, as it may be structurally weakened even if the damage isn’t obvious.
• Watch for cracks in the trunk, split limbs, missing bark, or hanging branches.
• Have the tree professionally inspected before assuming it is safe.
If a tree has fallen:
• Keep everyone away from the area.
• Never attempt to remove a tree resting on a structure or entangled with another tree.
• If power lines are involved, call your utility company immediately and stay clear.
• Take photos before any cleanup for insurance purposes.
• Contact your insurance provider and a qualified, insured tree service as soon as possible.
And always make sure you are working with licensed and insured professionals.
