A Seppi M. USA stone crusher and ripper were rented from Linndale Equipment in July-August 2018 to pioneer a new approach to agricultural reuse of mined lands. By breaking up the rocky ground and grinding the top 10" of rocks into soil, it was demonstrated that reclaimed mountaintops can be made into tillable farm soil. The 15 acres prepped with the equipment will now be used for a variety of research and production plantings. Please contact Nathan Hall at [email protected] for more information

This coming Monday afternoon Jan 29, we'll be taking part in a series of free workshops at the Charleston WV Civic Center about income opportunities on Appalachian mined lands. It'll be a great opportunity to learn about various kinds of agriculture (orchards, livestock, bioenergy, h**p), as well as innovative site prep, building developments, and rare earth processing. We hope to see you there, and click here to register:

Yesterday was a great moment for the future of agriculture on post mining lands. Reclaim Appalachia, in partnership with Seppi M. USA and Linndale Equipment, demonstrated a Seppi Supersoil stone crusher implement with a Deutz 9340 TTV tractor (330 hp) on a former mountaintop mining site in Mingo County WV. It performed extremely well, converting rocky mine ground into loose fluffy soil that could easily be planted with a variety of cash crops. We hope to see this equipment find a permanent home in southern WV in the near future, and please check out this EKB News piece about the event (thanks Shelby!)
