One of our recent projects was to help solve acoustical problem at an animal shelter in South Carolina. Noise from barking dogs was creating a stressful working environment for the staff and visitors looking to purchase a new pet.

Mallia was the project manager and she worked with our local fabric panel distributor to evaluate the job and make recommendations. After finalizing the design and ordering the panels, our distributor installed the acoustical panels and completed the project.

When the project was finished, the animal hospital was so happy with the final results that they sent a great thank you note! Here’s a snippet from their letter:

If you have an existing wall, we will ask whether the wall is drywall, concrete block, wood, or something else. Mass Loaded Vinyl or Green Glue will work very well in projects like this, and both are easy to install. The wall will look the same after you paint, but it will block noise a lot better!

New walls can be designed with the right soundproofing products before you start. We always suggest insulation, & our products have been tested with plain fiberglass insulation. If you have loud, or low-frequency noise (home theater as an example) we will go with a decoupling system that can block the heavy vibration. Sound Isolation Clips are a perfect solution, and we may combine with another product to maximize the performance.

Electrical and data boxes, AC Ducts, and seals around doors and windows are a few of the most obvious leaks in the wall. We have the right solution for each of those and more.

Back in May we were contacted by the owner of Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa in San Antonio, Texas. This facility isn’t your run of the mill daycare. They offer boarding, daycare, grooming, and even a self-serve dog wash. You can tell the dogs are well taken care of and happy. However, with all the barking from the happy dogs, they had a loud noise problem in the boarding area of the facility.

We gathered information including the dimensions of the space, what the walls, floors and ceiling were made of, & locations of lighting, doors, etc. Using this information, we determined that fabric covered acoustical hanging baffles were the best choice for this space.

We worked with them to determine where to hang the baffles for the best result. We went back to the room dimensions to determine the best locations and discussed how to keep the installation simple, working around any potential obstacles or complications before the products arrived on the job.

What is making the noise & where is it coming from?
How is it entering your space?

Airborne Noise: conversation, television, radio, etc. It can pass through your walls when the wall is too lightweight to sufficiently block the noise. Modern construction has not evolved to meet the demands of these normal occurrences.

Structure Borne Noise: low-frequency noise caused by home theatres, stereos, music practice, etc. It can pass through a well-insulated wall through vibrations that you can feel with your feet or hands.

Louis Sanders reached out to us because the echo problems in Shiloh’s Steakhouse were so bad, that his customers told him they weren’t returning for that reason.

We gathered information from Louis to help us design a solution for the very bad echo problems. The dimensions of the space, pictures of the dining areas, & a simple sketch of the floor plan. We called Louis back as soon as we got his email to discuss everything. All the noise was bouncing off the hard surfaces creating very unacceptable acoustics.

The challenge for this case was finding a product that would not cover up the beautiful wood surfaces. For Louis’s restaurant, our best bet was to focus on the ceilings. Louis would get better results & spend less money by treating part of the ceiling – full coverage was not needed.

Louis decided on fabric-wrapped acoustical clouds. We had a fabric color that would blend in, & the clouds could be installed in the spaces between the ceiling beams, effectively hiding them.
