👂🪲 EARWIGS: Creepy looking… but actually pretty helpful!

Earwigs may look a little intimidating, but these nighttime scavengers play an important role in nature.

They’re sometimes called “environmental janitors” because they feed on dead and decaying plants and insects, helping clean up organic material around your yard and garden. 🌿

But there’s a catch…

When those food sources become scarce, earwigs may start feeding on living plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables — and that’s when this beneficial insect can quickly become a pest.

And if you start finding them inside your home, they’ve definitely overstayed their welcome. 😂

So are earwigs good or bad?

👉 Outside doing cleanup = beneficial.
👉 Eating your garden or moving inside = pest.

Sometimes the difference between a beneficial insect and a pest is simply where it decides to hang out!

This split-level home had no v***r barrier at all in its roughly 600 sq. ft. crawl space, leaving exposed soil underneath the home and allowing ground moisture to enter the crawl.

Our crew came in and:

✅ Cleaned and prepped the crawl space
✅ Installed a heavy-duty 12-mil moisture barrier
✅ Carefully taped all seams for a clean, continuous barrier
✅ Glued and secured the poly along the foundation walls for a professional finish

The result is a cleaner, drier, and better-protected crawl space that will help reduce ground moisture and protect the home for years to come.

A crawl space may be out of sight, but it shouldn’t be out of mind! 🏠💧

🐜 **“Why do I suddenly have ants?!”**

The truth is… they probably didn’t just show up overnight. 👀

Ant colonies can be living and growing around your property long before you ever notice activity inside. So what causes them to suddenly make their way into your home?

🍽️ **Food** — Once ants find a reliable food source, they’ll keep coming back.

💧 **Water** — Moisture is another major reason ants move indoors.

🌦️ **Weather changes** — Drought, heavy rain, and changing temperatures can all cause ants to relocate in search of food, water, and shelter.

🧹 **Housekeeping helps** — We can’t eliminate every source of moisture, but keeping food, crumbs, spills, and other attractants under control can make a big difference.

And here’s something important to remember: **even a home with regular pest control can occasionally have ant activity.** Pest control isn’t an invisible force field that prevents every single bug from ever entering your home. It’s about **prevention, controlling populations, reducing conducive conditions, and responding when activity occurs.**

When ants seem to appear “out of nowhere,” the question usually isn’t *where did they suddenly come from?* — it’s **what changed that caused them to come inside?** 🐜🏡

That’s where prevention and regular pest control make the difference. **Freedom Pest Services**

Hey we just met you… and those bugs are crazy 🐜📞 Call us maybe.

08/17/2026

🏡 **Would you skip changing the batteries in your smoke detector?**

Probably not.

The same mindset applies to **termite protection.** 🐜

One of the biggest misconceptions is that a single termite inspection is enough to protect your home.

Here's the reality:

✅ **Annual termite inspections** are essential. They help identify signs of termite activity and determine whether your existing protection is still performing as intended.

👀 But here's what surprises most homeowners...

A termite inspector **doesn't have X-ray vision.**

On average, we can only visually inspect:
🏠 **About 3% of a home built on a concrete slab**
🪵 **About 25% of a home with a crawlspace**
🏡 **A little more in homes with unfinished basements**

The vast majority of your home's structure is hidden behind drywall, flooring, insulation, and other building materials. That's exactly where termites like to work—out of sight.

✅ **That's why termite treatments are just as important as inspections.** Treatments have a service life and should be renewed according to the manufacturer's recommendations. For many liquid termite treatments, that may be around **10 years** to maintain protection.

Inspections help us monitor your home. A quality termite treatment provides a protective barrier designed to eliminate termites before they can cause costly damage.

The best termite repair is the one you never have to make.

🕷️ **FREEDOM FACT FRIDAY: TICK EDITION!** 🕷️

They may be tiny, but ticks are tougher—and sneakier—than they look! 😳

🌿 **They don’t jump or fly.** Ticks typically hang out on grass, brush, and vegetation and grab onto a host as it passes by. This behavior is called **“questing.”**

👃 **They can sense you coming.** Ticks use cues like carbon dioxide, body heat, moisture, and vibrations to help locate a potential host.

🩸 **You may never feel the bite.** Tick saliva contains compounds that can help reduce pain and interfere with your body’s normal response while they feed.

⏳ **They can go a LONG time without eating.** Depending on the species and life stage, some ticks can survive many months between blood meals.

🍂 **Tick season doesn't end when summer does!** Ticks can remain active well into the fall—and some species can even be active after the first frost when temperatures are mild enough.

🐶 And remember: ticks aren't just a concern for people. Your **pets and your yard** can be part of the equation, too.

Regular yard maintenance, checking yourself and pets after being outdoors, and professional flea & tick treatments can all help reduce tick activity around your property.

😳 **You won't believe what we found hiding inside this kids' tire swing...**

At first, it just looked like a little rainwater.

But after flipping the tire over, we discovered **something much worse...** 🐝

Hidden inside was a **wasp nest**—right where curious little hands could have reached without anyone knowing.

And the standing water? 💧 That's the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

These are the kinds of hidden hazards we look for every day. Most families would never think to check inside a tire swing, but it only takes a few seconds to uncover a potentially dangerous surprise.

⚠️ Before your kids head outside to play:
✔️ Dump out any standing water.
✔️ Check inside tire swings and outdoor toys.
✔️ Look for wasp nests before little hands find them first.

A 30-second inspection could prevent painful stings and help reduce mosquitoes around your home.

Stay safe out there! ❤️

🐜 Think bugs disappear in the winter? Think again!

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that pests "go away" when the weather cools down. The truth? They simply become active whenever temperatures rise.

🌡️ Here's why:

✅ When temperatures climb above 50°F, insects become active and start moving again.

✅ Over the past year, there were only 15 days that stayed below 55°F all day. That means bugs had the opportunity to be active for 350 days out of the year!

✅ Our winters are simply too short to stop pest activity, which is why year-round pest protection is the most effective way to keep your home protected.

Don't wait until you see bugs—stay ahead of them. Prevention is always easier (and less expensive) than dealing with an infestation.
